Difference between Airgun and Airsoft for CBSA?

Does anyone actually know how CBSA determine whether its airgun or airsoft?
What I'm talking right now is like bolt action gas rifle. how do you determine which one is ok which is not? I'm just wondering how did 007 can get L96 in without clear receiver.

they are single shot and can shoot over 407. try searching next time.

Airgun fires metal pellets or metal bbs Airsoft fire plasitc

Most CBSA presume AS guns are replicas.. whereas they presume Airguns are not.

Clearly retailers are still able to get non clear guns.. there are several that have them for sale all the time .. most of these guys still have their BFA and their permits in place.. or maintain connections with those that do. The larger "public" retailers have switched over to clear receiver retailing because there is way less risk and BS.

It's crazy not to expect risk and BS, since using a BFL to import airsoft guns for public sale is illegal by definition. That's not what BFL is meant for and using it in such a manner is just waiting to be prosecuted.

Jordan,

It is single shot only and shoot between 407 to 500fps with 134a gas, therefore it is classified as an uncontrolled firearm, which is legal for civilians.

If it shoots under 407 fps, it's a replica firearm, which is a prohibited device.

If it is capable of doing full auto, and shoot under 407fps, it's a replica firearm as well.

If it can do full auto and shoots between 407 fps, it is a prohibited firearm.

Ken
This is from ken I was asking about the m700. Now as for the l96 he has I dunno how he gets around the fps. maybe it can hit that mark with .12g?

Hmm thanks for the info so I guess sniper rifle are good like aw338. on propane it's 480fps at 28 degrees.

Dart November 6th, 2009 15:18

yah, I would still not try to import one my self. I mean the gun would definatly not make it through with out an appeal, than they would have to crono it... just a pita.

It would get seized and you would have to fight like hell to get it back. The CBSA are supposed to use the FPS on the packaging as stated by the original manufacturer as a reference, regardless of BB weight. But the CBSA does not follow their own rules. Its all luck i suppose, maybe you would get an officer who knows what they are doing, Its possible at least.

Right now I'm enquiring how to import a airsoft sniper rifle. Basically Im gonna be declaring it as air gun. Before I do, right now I'm trying to figure out how to get it so they can test it immediately.

As for the manual fps specification, I'll ask retailer to search for the number if its on the manual, then don't ship the manual, (or as seperate package) can always ask them to put a chrono fps on there, and if the CBSA want to play ball I'm hoping I can indicate that I've given them permission to sent it to the lab.
All of these I won't go through until I can get a full confirmation on a green light both CBSA and CFC.

Mod if you want to close it feel free,

and as for the projectile, I can get metal bbs.

No, more of a loophole.

Anything shooting single-shot between 407-500 is considered an airgun.

Importing airguns is legal.

I don't see the problem.

That's because you've never imported an airgun.

Just because its legal doesn't mean it comes in without a hitch, and I know of several people who imported airguns which got seized anyway (despite the same model being sold at various sporting goods stores). Then its the same hassle as with airsoft, getting it tested at your own cost and MAYBE seeing your gun a few months or a year down the road.

I agree completely, Drake.

I was speaking purely from a legal standpoint.

So, yes it is legal, but difficult and long-winded. IMO

well Im gonna try anyways, I'm just trying to cover all the flanks before going forward. I'm hoping to find a way so that it can leave a note to push the CBSA forward instead of the detain n wait (for my permission etc to test)
