Am I allowed to let my son play ?
I'm not home very often (work related stuff) and my son is really excited about me getting an airsoft gun. He's only 15 though. Am I allowed to let him play with it when I'm not home? My wife can keep an eye on him if necessary so would it be okay or should I just lock it up and only use it myself?
thanks |
Nothing to stop you, make sure he knows everything about safety; when loaded ALWAYS pointed down range (towards target where NOBODY is), wearing eye protection, etc...
When he's 16 some game hosts will allow him to play as long as he is playing with you. (you'll need 2 guns) |
It's never to early to learn proper handling, but please ensure that you don't simply provide him with a gun and leave him to his shenanigans, as you are legally responsible of everything he does.

So I can tell him that he can play when I'm not home? I can just imagine the look on his face when I say that
EDIT: Yea my wife will watch over him and will only let him use it when shes watching |

Where will it be used? Check your local bylaws, discharge outside might be a crime.

Am I allowed to shoot it outside in my backyard, also there is an isolated valley not to far from where I live (Ontario). Am I allowed to shoot it there? Its only a cheap mini AEG which shoots at 200 fps.
P.S. I'm going camping in a provincial park with my son tommorow, am I allowed to "discharge" it there |
Rules to live by:
1-Don't shoot it anywhere you wouldn't shoot a pellet gun. 2-Don't show it to anyone you wouldn't trust with your life. If you have to ask whether your son can use the gun alone, well, shouldn't that be between you and him? I'm quite certain everyone here was running around with pellet guns by age 14. Inquire with the police about air gun rules and maybe attend a gun safety course with your son. |

Amirite? |
If there's even a remote chance of having someone seeing it, no for all.
Again, bylaws. |

Is there some site where I can check the bylaws or will I have to go to the station myself?

Golden rule of Airsoft - Always treat Airsoft as if they are a real firearm, whether they are in storage, in your house, outside or even in your bedroom. the moment you treat it as toys that's when trouble always happen.
|
If you want to shoot it in your backyard, and you have neighbors make sure you give them a heads up about it. Wouldn't want to have them freak out or raise a stink regarding it.
When I was still in highschool (14-15ish) we got away with shooting off pellet rifles in my friends back yard because the neighbors were cool with it as long as we didn't fuck anything up. |
