Painting: Is it stupid?

Alright so i was thinking of spray painting the clear part of my AEG black. I know to use painters tape over the parts I don't want painted and not to paint on grass. I heard a rumor that it will mess up the internals of the gun. Is this true? And if not are there any specific methods used to paint AEG's? Is it a common thing? Thanks.

Best bet is to probably to field strip it/take it apart, paint what parts you want and re-assemble.
Always worked for me.
Usually do 3-4 light coats.

One gun I had, 50% of the mechbox was painted and it still worked, shrug.

take it apart and paint what you want, using tape to cover what you don't wanna paint and trying to paint it all assemble will not look nearly as good.

sometimes you can brush your AEG by those paints, cuz i make plastic models..

I don't see how painting, let's say a plastic receiver, would do anything to a gearbox? Paint does not go through plastic, then through the mecbox lol

I'd see a problem if they went through "holes". Other than that seal it up with painters tape and you're good to go.

A tip if your trades are engraved. Cover the trades with painters tape and paint the rest of the gun first. Then paint the trades with a brush, wipe it off with a Kleenex or something (so the paint doesn't sit in the crevasses and fill them up) then "colour in" the trades with a crayon, or whiteout, and cover with a matte clear coat.
