Gear Grease

I know that you can use White Lithium grease for gears, but the only white lithium grease I can find at either Canadian Tire or Home Depot is the type that's in a aerosol can. Can I use that for my gears?

It's actual grease and it's in a tube, it's called Lith-ease, it should be in the automotive section of Canadian Tire.

I can't seem to find it on their website. But I'll head over there and see for myself. Thanks! :)

Lith-Ease is in a red and white tube. It should be in with the other greases & WD40.

Lith-ease is good

If you want spray i recommand fluid film (canadian tire), i've lubed many mechbox with it. No petroleum distillat, sticks, clean & protect plastic and metal. Never had any short or long term issue.

I tried Medical approved grease (used in cordless drill), but havent had great success.

Otherwise you can buy Systema gear grease at 15$

I need it right now, so ordering Systema Gear Grease is out of the question. Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

Best stuff I've used so far is Superlube, in everyway comparable or superior to Systema gear grease with teflon, and guarder teflon gear grease.

I'de avoid white lithium as over time it tends to seperate into a very thin clear liquid and white paste with the consistancy of soap scum.

Superlube is about $14.00 a tube, contains PTFE ( Teflon ) protects plastic and metal and keeps its consistancy in both very hot and very cold conditions.

As mentioned in another thread on ASC:

It can be found at your local GMC Dealership

Well I just got back from Canadian Tire and I purchased an 8 oz. tube of Lith-Ease White Lithium Grease. I'm not to worried about it because I'm just using it in a spare gearbox with spare parts that I have laying around. But I'll make note of the Superlube for next time, thanks.

Should I put grease in between the teeth of the gears as well?

Darklen December 29th, 2008 22:23

Yes. A light lubing inbetween the gear teeth as well as the axle shafts where they go into the bushings.
