A&K M249 MKII N00b Help :)

Hi. I've just recieved my A&K M249 MKII a few weeks ago - and it's okay. It shoots at around 310 FPS with a not so great rate of fire, and decent accuracy.

However for an M249 you'd expect it to be a BEAST weighing in at 30 pounds or so.. And having a 2500 round box mag. So I've decided to upgrade it.

Being that I don't want to diassemble it until it comes time ( I know it never hurts to inspect before committing ) I'm not familiar with a version 3 gearbox.

I've done work numerous times on my version 2, but not ever on a v3.

Anywho - I've read around that it's a short type motor?
Also that version 2 parts are compatible with version 3 gearboxes?

And anything else I need to know would be great.

I'm looking to do a full internal upgrade:

Spring, Piston, Piston head, Cyllinder, Cyllinder head, Motor, (And maybe gears. I'm not sure of A&K Quality.)

Thanks everyone!

You sure it's a V3? Mine is completely different from a Version 3...

By the way, is you worked a bit on V2-V3 you'll see that working on the A&K M249 is a piece of cake.

That's a weird looking gearbox. Well, to answer my question - What parts does it accept? And the motor length?

Short motor if I recall, and accepts mostly V.2 parts accept the nozzle, I think thats a V.3 but I'd have to double check.

all internals are V2 to my knowledge. The only thing you really need to change is the hopup unit and spring if you want to up the FPS. A bigger battery will help with ROF seeing the mini that it comes with is crap.

The 9.6 mini that came with mine is still going strong. I have (2) 9.6s that i use soley. The one in question is still kickin' quite well.

I use a TLP TL-15 Digital to charge at 2 - 3A.

hahaha the piston of a&k m249's are long stroke pistons. well its a version of it's own. but i guess you wont be having a hard time buying one on the internet.

I lost all air seal in my A&K M249.

I thought it was the hop-up, nope.

Then, someone suggested it might have been the tappet plate not returning...nope.

So I opened him up................... shredded piston teeth.

There's enough grease in there to cook some fries while I'm at it.

Any suggestions for upgrades while he's open?

Thanks

There's an awesome write-up on the A&K 249 on Arnie Airsoft. I can't recall the exact article...but it's pretty much a {picture/text by picture/text} front to back review of the 249. There's also 3-5 "things that need fixing" (of which I only needed to do 1) and he describes how to fix them.

It's a horribly long read...but extremely good info.

Arnies is a bitch sometimes for searching...but you should be able to find it. If I troll past it I'll put in the link here.

****EDIT****
That wasn't hard...it's in their review database...hope there's helpful stuff in there for you guys...

310 fps is pretty low. My gun is still totally stock and shoots 395 fps. Rof is not very high at about 12/s, but it's actually a pretty realistic rof for an M249. As for weight, it weighs around 14 lbs like the real thing. Not sure why you're expecting it to weigh 30 lbs.
