Spur Gear

So I was doing maintenance on my 416 after not having opening for over a year. No biggie done it several times, and consider myself a relatively good gun doc. Then all of a sudden, I see a piece that I am totally unfamiliar with and think where the heck did this come from and where does it go?

After closer examination, I figured out where it came from. The collar/nub on the spur gear broke clean off. Has this ever happened to anyone?

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about its the nub on the gear below.

Actual Picture, sorry, I used my phone.

I was running a 350 FPS on a Complete G&P Mechbox with with Systema Magnum Motor, roughly 30000 rounds through it.

Also the first two teeth on my poly carb piston are chewed pretty good, everything else is pristine. Is that normal for heavy usage? Remember 30k rounds, my ROF was around 1k Per Minute.

Do you mean a chunk out of the gear teeth, or the collar sitting on the gearshaft? I can't see what you mean from that pic.

Second image is a dead link for me.

Fixed, that should make things clearer.

It can have been caused by a jam or something similar.

If that gear was casted, it is not impossible that this section was weaker to torque than a teeth is to linear pressure.

Anyways, It is as likely to happen as a teeth breaking.

Yeah I've seen that with four Chinese guns I've worked on, one of them was brand new too, just went in to change the bushings. On another occasion I've pulled the axel right through the gear. Interestingly enough have only noticed that with the spur gear, never had a problem with sector or bevel gears.

Generally I don't like the XYT brand and will replace them at first chance, even stock TM gears if I have them handy.

These were G&P stamped gears so im surprised they broke the way the did.

It's the frist time I seen that happen to a spurgear most of the time it's the outer teeth that go. For your piston teeth it mite be your Systema Magnum Motor is to powerfull and making to much of a impact on the two frist teeth in it's cyclic. My best Guess.

You should get some metal bushing while your at it.

I've seen a set of systema gears go when the axel of the bevel gear snapped...but never on the spur...neat!

I'm positive that I have a spare set of torque up gears if you need them...and maybe a set of "junk" gears....

I'm not. Every single set of G&P gears I've ever had have done the same thing, including a set out of a new G&P M120 factory gear box. It lasted less than one game. I've used SystemA gear in all my aegs and have never had issue with them. Hell, even stock TM gears have lasted longer than the G&P stuff I've worked on. I've also had similar experiences with clients aegs and G&P internals. Their external parts are top notch in my experience, the internals, not so much.

Strange, I just recently bought a brand new systema complete m100 mechbox and it doesn't even work out of the box. I want to throw it out my freaking window and run it over with my car. Well, If i end up keeping the systema, ill put in my main rifle that the G&P was in and see if it can handle the same test. Only time will tell. Its a shame too, because the teeth on the spur gear look in great shape still, oh well.

No wonder it doesn't work... Systema doesn't make any complete M110 boxes. Only M100 and M120.

In fact... Systema doesn't even have an M110 spring in their entire lineup!

YOU BOUGHT A PIRATED PRODUCT!

Wow... first they pirate designer jeans/clothing, then designer hand bags and Rolex's... now gearboxes - what's next?

My mistake, it was a m100. Had me worried there for a sec Brian, but I trust the source I got it from.

Lol. I figured it was just a typo. Was only pulling your chain. ;)
