hey guys, tried looking at a few of the other threads about playing leftie, ut I couldn't quite find what I was looking for......
I'm wondering if it's possible to reverse the mag release, so a person could shoot left handed without the worry of pressing the mag release with their index (trigger) finger?
If this is doable, what pistol would one reccomend? More specifically, what pistol would require the least amount of modding to make this possible.


second question, also about pistols, do all 1911's typically have the exact same grip frame as their real steel counter parts? I'm wondering if I can remove the grips and put on a hogue wrap-around on?

Im not sure if its possible to reverse the mag release on any gbb, I'll leave that question for someone with a little more mechanical experience. However I would like to recommend the Maruzen P99 as a GBB if you can find one, it has an ambidextrous mag release. Same goes for USPs I believe! Anyways best of luck finding a solution to your questions.

not sure if ambidextrous would help....what I'm scared of is loosing a mag altogether! Just my luck it'd end up lost in the woods forever....

I'm a lefty and got used to it pretty fast. The USP is useful for you can release with any hand.

I'm also a lefty, and got used to do it reasonnably fast with my middle finger on a Hi-Cappa, so it doesn't bother me that much.

The sling attachement on the (full) stock of my MP5 is more troublesome, though ;) Will have to make a modification to the sling to make it fit to my liking.

It's not possible without modification on any pistol I've had experience with. In my opinion it's not worth it. You should not be able to accidentally press the mag release with your trigger finger on most pistols if you're holding it correctly. The USP for example is ambidextrous but the mag release is below the trigger frame and requires you to further push it DOWN (not into the frame like a 1911). It's almost impossible to accidentally hit it with your trigger finger.

the mag release botton is pretty easy to reverse on a m9, I have and hfc m199 and i flipped the release botton on pretty easy. Im not sure if this is what your meaning but i hope it helps.

Don't know how well this works on other pistols, but I know you can reverse the mag release on M9s. My mag catch on my KJW is worn out so that when I pull the trigger and shoot, the mag now comes shooting out of the grip. I simply reversed it to a left-hand configunation, and it works like a charm. The real steel Berettas have this ambi capability as well. I think that's a pretty specific thing to Berettas though. I've checked all my other pistols, and none of them can do this. Other than the USP that has an ambi release, I don't know of any other pistol offhand.

As for Hogue grips, I can't speak for the 1911 specifically. I know that the full Hogue wraparound grips fit perfectly on the M9. They will fit on a P226 with some modification. I would assume they would fit on a 1911, since they're the same size as the real steel. At the very least, they'd more than likely only require minor modification to fit.

+1 to that Crunch, it is possible to reverse the mag release button to the other side.
