V3 cover plate/retaining strap

hey there guys, just took my mechbox out of my JG g36 for the first time, following all the steps on Mechbox.com, got the motor off, then ran into a hitch. the strap i need to pry off wont move. It is pressed firmly against the black part behind it (sorry i don't know the name of this piece) I have tried adding a little lube, pulling from the sides and searching for this issue already...anyone have an idea of how to get it off??

By "strap" I assume you mean the stopper rail... it's REALLY hard to get them off, although I use a screw driver to slide it down.

theguy July 22nd, 2008 23:08

right sorry, I'm using the words that mechbox.com said, sorry if its the wrong lingo

Hammer and a flat-blade screwdriver to start it, and once you're past that notch, you should be good.

arman July 23rd, 2008 03:34

yea...just dont stab yourself when you do it...

theguy July 23rd, 2008 12:19

gah, still not having any luck, would it help to take out all the screws on the bottom first?

Skruface July 23rd, 2008 12:21

Shouldn't make a difference.Give it a good whack - it's steel.

The Saint July 23rd, 2008 12:22

Have you tried sliding off the rail before removing any screws?

theguy July 23rd, 2008 12:23

yeah so far the only thing i have taken off is the motor mount...

theguy July 23rd, 2008 12:30

crap....i know I'm not supposed to double post but....while i was hammering away at it like you guys told me to, one of the little black pegs on the sides on the black thing behind it broke off, sorry for my terrible vocabulary...

The Saint July 23rd, 2008 12:43

If you can make the FR game this Saturday, I'll take a look at it for you in person.

theguy July 23rd, 2008 12:46

I'd love to, but I'm heading up to my cottage that day for a week...

theguy July 23rd, 2008 13:22

well i got it all apart, after replacing bushings and shimming i noticed two mystery springs...unlike the demonstration on mechbox.com, my trigger assembly fell apart...I'm guessing thats what they're from, I can take a photo if you need me to,
one looks s bit like the spring on the tappet plate, and the other looks a bit like a slightly larger aiti-reversal latch spring...

anyone have any ideas?

thanks again-
Ben

The smaller one is probably the one for the trigger contact. The larger one is probably the trigger return spring. And for what it's worth, the AK triggers are a huge pain in the butt to set properly - you almost need 3 hands to do it.

Good luck to ya.
