Battery problem?
 

Item: Brand new 8.4v 3300mA Intellect battery from airsoftparts.ca
Charger: The intelligent charger from airsoftparts.ca, the one with 0.9 and 1.8A charge settings.

Plugging the brand new battery in the charger does nothing, unplugging it makes the charger flash a red, then green light once each.

Plugging the battery in my girlfriend's new RPK turned the motor once then nothing.

Plugging an old 7.2v battery turns the motor over fine.

Any ideas?

If yours is the same as mine,

- plug in the charger, the light should flash green/red and then go off.
- set the charging rate to whatever you want (I set it to "low" for mini cells and "high" for sub-c cells)
- plug in the battery, the light should go to red
- when it's finished, the light should be green

If you don't get any light at all...try a different battery on the charger. If the charger senses it and goes red, charges it and then goes green, you know the charger is good.

Take the battery that didn't work and try it on a different charger. Or leave it on a wall charger for 15-20min. Then try it on the new charger. I came across a battery once that needed a "jump-start" to be recognized by the smart charger...I suppose that it was really low.

+1 to that. I had a brand new intellect battery from Airsoftparts which I just could not get to charge with intelligent chargers. I slapped it on a chinese clone charger for an hour, then plugged it into the intelligent charger and it worked no problem.

Hmm, I just got a brand new Intellect today and it charged just fine; yes, I have a smart charger from airsoftparts, they really are just so awesome.

I recently sold a NIB large Intellect battery, either 3300mah or 3600mah, can't remember which. The buyer asked me to charge it before delivery, so I plugged it into my NPT charger (from BB Bastard, going on 3 years old now). However, the light showed green no matter what I did, so I gave up. I didn't have a gun at the time to test the battery.

When the buyer tried to use the battery at the game, it wasn't actually charged at all. He hooked it to my NPT again and this time the NPT recognized it. From there it was properly charged and performed great.

In all the batteries (well...must be over a dozen different packs) that I've charged on my charger...the "too-low to be recognized" thing only happened once. The guy was ready to ship his charger/battery back and buy a new one. We cross checked with my batteries and chargers and at first his battery ("brand new" off the shelf) seemed to be a dud. Just for kicks we plugged it into an old wall charger and left it charging while we chatted. Then tried it again and he never had any problems with it after that.

The thing is that you never can tell how long the pack has been sitting on the manufacturer's shelf...before it sits with the distributor...before it sits with the vendor/store.

Actually yes you can find out, but it is a pain in the A.

There is a batch code stamped on every cell. You can manage to contact the manufacturer and get a date from there.

However, it can be possible that the charger does not recognise the pack.

If you have a higher end charger that does not auto detect the cell count, you can force start it. Most high-end charger have a 2 seconds delay when starting to help the voltage rise to normal value.

Unfortunately that's the only charger I have -- Guess I'll have to meet up with a Mtl-area guntech just to use his china wall-plug.

In a nutshell....

If It's a NiCad store it fully discharged to avoid "memory" issues, but if it's a NiMh, store charged and top up b4 a game, over discharging NiMh batteries will ruin them.

And here's the new kid(battery) on the block that will probably take over the battery market....
