Sniper: spring vs gas vs AEG
 

I was wondering about all your thoughts on a sniper rifle preference.
This is what ive always thought. Don't regard fps limits for the time being


Spring:
Pros
1) Cheep(er)
2) High FPS

Cons
1) loud
2) difficult to cock back at high fps and remain prone

Gas:
Pros
1) Quiet
2) Easy to cock

Cons
1) Rarer (?)
2) temperature sensitive

AEG:
Pros
1) Can modofy from existing gun
2) full auto last ditch capability

Cons
1) Loud
2) Expensive(?)

AEG snipers are more prone to wearing down and breaking = higher costs. especially startup costs (i.e. reinforced gearbox etc etc)

My first sniper WILL be a Tanaka Kar98k. IT is gas operated, but i dont really want to standstill in cold weather anyway. Perhaps a spring for later. But i think that gas is the way to go.

i was thinking about turning my CA m15 into a "sniper ready" where all id need to do is switch out the inner and outer barrel.

from the point i have it at now it would be another 400, for the inner and outer barrel, super torque helical gears, and a systema magnum/turbo motor. but if i were to get a sniper id probabily go with gas, and a tanaka m24, plus a tightbore would cost 510.

so my question is, is it worth the extra 100 or so?

turing an AEG into a sniper platform is risky business. even if you know what you are doing, your gun can still crap out on you simply due to stress on the parts.

well i have a prowin 8mm gearbox, and ive never herd of those breaking.

id just need to get a new piston. Prometheus hard piston maby?

im not the best at internal stuff. but prometheus is a great company cant go wrong with them. If you can find an angel piston, then you are golden. another options would be to just get a complete systema drop-in mechbox. that is what i would do.

1) initially Cheaper ( upgrades will bring the cost way up)
2) fps consitency (renders more accurate shots)
3) gameable in all weather conditions

Cons
1) loud
2) difficult to cock back at high fps and remain prone
3) can get expensive.
4) extensive modification needed to get a 300 fps sniper shooting 500 fps (zero trigger, tightbore, hop-up, spring, sears, spring guides, cylinder etc.)

Gas:
Pros
1) Quiet
2) Easy to cock
3) relatively affordable (KJW M700)
4) power adjustable (whether it be adjusting power from using different gases or tuning the hammer spring strength)
5) out-of-the-box performance.

Cons
1) less shot consistency (varying temperatures, and gas system used)
2) can be expensive also. (tanaka)
3) not gameable in winter



there are goods and bads about different guns. for example, the Gspec has a excellent hop up design but the short barrel length and light weight body are the short comings. The KJW M700 has excellent power and feel to it (texture, weight etc) but has inferior qc control and may need some fine tuning for it to run desirably. IMO spring setup is the way to go. spend time fine tuning your BA and it will serve you well.

you can't really compare snipers with aegs they fit totally different roles; unless its the G3 SG1 you're talking about.

yea, i do internal stuff, and the prowin 8mm is a stronger mech box, and i like it a lot beacuse it has a spring change option similar to a PTW, i separate the halves, undo one screw, and pop off the back piece, out comes the spring and spring guide, all i need to do is insert a new spring, place on top the spring guide, line everything up, press it in and tighten the screw

i cant find the V2 angel piston anywhere, its discontinued at WGC, and its not listed at uncompany. couldn't find it at redwolf either, but i didnt expect to.

Unless you want to go with insane power (high fps), an upgraded spring sniper rifle is the best way to go.

I own both. My CA M24 is more acurate, but my KJW M700 allow me to set it's power higher where fields allow it. More fps allow the use of heavyer BBs for more precision.

You can not expect good result with an AEG sniper platforme. But the PTW might change that now. I have yet to try one that equal or outperforme an finely tuned bolt action rifle.

Spring sniper rifles are not loud. They're fairly silent actually.

i think he is trying to say they make a "THWANG" noise from the high powered spring.

Dampers solve that from what I remember. They are effectively the most silent after gas from what I've been shot at with, lol.

My AEG SR-25 has good range and is pretty much a sniper rifle out of the box, especially with the semi-only feature of the SR-25. I'm modifying it into an M110 SASS, and it's going to cost me a mere 200 extra.

There is also the visual concearn to be taken into account when you actually shoot;
Spring - no visual give away of your position
Gas - fairly noticable fog like discharge

Other than that, it's all personal preferance.

i think im just going to get a cheep gas rifle and upgrade it, it sounds cheeper to me, and i like how quiet it is, if your in the shadows its almost impossible to see the gas discharge

Go for the KJW M700 in that case.
