got it as well. Considered it like some sort of spam so ignored them.

I use to be involved in search engine marketing and optimization, and this was a tactic used to boost rankings of a site in Google. That letter was created from an old template that was circulated for webmasters whose goals were to boost their GoogleRank through linkbacks.

I checked this site out this morning.... holly fricken hell the only posters I saw were like 8 yr olds and the admins..

ditto on the e-mail trashed it b4 it could even load in the preview. Sounds like I did the right thing. Interesting to see the diff strategies utilized on the web.

I think it's called google bombing, if you can get enough linkbacks you can reach the top of the page ranks easier.

If anyone remembers when xkcd google bombed the "died in a knitting accident" search to link back to their site it works on the same principle.
