Which Propane gas should I get for the TMM1911A1?
 

Hi guys, i am sorry for the noob question, but this will be my first GGBs (have couple of AEG) that i should be receiving in the next couple of days.

I bought the TM Colt Government M1911A1 from Mark at A&A along with the propane adapter kit and Mark told to get the green coleman tanks from Canadian tire for the TM 1911.

But first i would like to confirm with you guys if it is true that the TM M1911A1 can take propane (top green gas) standard out of the box, without any upgrades, without any problems.
I also want to know which propane gas should i get for the TM M1911A1, are the green coleman tanks good ones, or should i get another brand?

I've read some post regarding the TM taking propane out of the box, and some say it can but others say it cannot cause it might break the ABS slide.

The Colemans are good ones. Really any 1lb propane tanks are good.
The new TM guns seem to do well with propane just as stock guns.

By the way, i got the AI Propane adapter kit and also got a couple of extra silicon oil like this one: https://www.aasurplus.ca/index.php?p...emart&Itemid=1

Is this a good silicon oil to use when running on propane?

And how do I use this adapter: Do I just screw the top and put on the adapter?

Now regarding the needed lubrication, should i just put one drop or two of silicone oil in the magazine about every 6- 8 mags?
Do i need to lube anything else besides the mags?

Yes, yes, yes put the oil in the propane tank nozzle, and usually not but you can lube the piston inside if it needs it but that should be handled by oil in the mags.

Green Coleman camping propane are 3 / $13 or so at Cdn Tire. That's what I tend to usually get. Lasts a long time.

How many mags do you get with a coleman tank anyways? Right now I'm using those blue torch propane tanks since the grip is better.

Same. I've been told that some of the additives in the green coleman propane will eat seals.

I heard they eat the seals if they have white caps and not black ones.

Well, I don't know if it eats seals or not, but the 3-packs of the Coleman propane have the black caps. En in single units, they're about $1 cheaper than the blue torch cylinders, and hold a bit more propane.

As for mileage, you'll get a LOT of fills off 1 tank.

How many fills have you been through? if you're not getting any seal deterioration then i'm happy with any coloured cap.

I'm not sure there's really much in there by way of additive besides the odorant.

The North American HD-5 standard is >=90% Propane, <=5% Propylene and <=2.5% Butane and other stuff (if I recall correctly.. someone more fluent in this stuff might wanna correct me [I'm looking at you, MadMax]).

Coleman's Pronane MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) indicates the odorant (ethyl mercaptan) is present in <0.1% quantities [sidenote: 0.1%?? DAMN that stuff must stink like crazy!]

And there's also seals present on stoves and other propane-powered appliances. A lot of Coleman stoves have a gas regulator, too. I'd think the gas would be pretty safe on seals when said seals are sitting inches away from a 3000 BTU (or whatever power) flame.

Man, that's hard to estimate, since I shoot a LOT in my basement... My KJW M9 has probably seen about 2 000 rounds to date. (probably 3-4 propane cannisters to itself - maybe a bit more.. not sure exactly). My Glock 17 has been through about 1500, so about 3 cannisters. The P226 is a fairly new addition, and has only seen 600-ish, maybe 1 cannister... Haven't had any seal problems.
