Instant text feature, MP3 player, file transfer and build-in 3.0MP camera by 2009/Q3? :D

Dude, where do you and Barf find all this odd and nifty stuff. However, I must point out that this is extremely practical and functional, where as Barfs findings are usuall just extremely entertaining.

BTW; Aren't you issued something like this for your on call kit for on scene location incase of something like a colapse??

Thats actually REALLY cool and can be life saving!

A definite buy for people planning to be out in the wilderness for long periods of time, or even a day trip.

Nice find!

LUTNIT February 29th, 2008 20:49

Thats really creepy, it looks VERY similar, does the exact same thing, and is even the same colour as a fourth year thesis project a year or two ago someone in my program did (Industrial Design.) I wonder if they helped designed it or it got knocked off from one of the design shows the thesis project was shown at.

Awesome device none the less.

Personal ELT's have been around for a while. This one is different as it is affordable.

If I wasn't in Mech, I would think Geomatics would have been a pretty interesting engineering department to go into.

I thought about something like this a while back... internet/satellite SOS thingies for old ladies who broke a hip falling out of the tub, or if you break a leg hiking or something... I think it was my cell phone sucking so much ass and never getting signal that made me think "Shit, if I really need this phone, I'm gonna die..."

Cool idea.

Yeah, until some asshole hits the 911 button and we get a SAR team heloing in... hehhee...

One thing to look at too - the 'alliance' for $8 a year insurance will cover you with up to $100,000 in search and rescue costs!

Now, make a Blackwater version of this that responds with a wet team... heheheheh... wonder if they sell insurance for that.

You do need visuals to the southern sky so its useless inside a structure.

Nonetheless, I am considering getting one. I go bear hunting all the time and my wife worries terribly when I go and do my week long camp up in the bush in Temagami. This would be to keep her up to day on where I am and that I am okay.

Now I just have to figure out how to trigger it from the bush when I am actually in a brothel in Hull... damn technology...
