Size of a rail.
How do you determine the size of a rail, because Im looking to by a laser light, and all that sort of stuff, but it says its for a 20mm (i think) rail.
I'm pretty sure that's the width of the rail.
If Im not mistaken...all rifle rails are 20mm wide. Its a standard that allows pretty much all accessories to fit on all rails. There are exceptions with pistols but they are mostly standardized as well.
20mm is the size of your standard MIL-1913-STD or Weaver style rails

okay, so pretty much all rifles have the same sized rails.
Thanks |
Yup. The only time the rails are not 20mm is on most hunting rifles which have dovetail mounts.
i was thinking about buying a scope at Wal-Mart for my VSR-10 sniper rifle, would it fit onto the rail of the rifle? Or would i have to buy some sort of attachment. If so can someone post a pic of what i'll need?
:) Always appreciated.:) |
Most scopes at them department stores sell scopes with dovetail rings, check to see which type of rails it mounts onto, if it's not a weaver, then find the diameter of the scope and pick up some new scope mounts, they can be found cheaply.
just a heads up, i bought a rifle scope from crappy tire, it was for a .22, but it wouldnt fit my rail,
.22 and most airgun (pellet) scopes sold at CT, Walmart, etc will come with rings for 3/8" (13mm) Dovetail rails.
They're generally POS scopes and for the handful that aren't you can buy 20mm Weaver rings at any decent sporting/hunting store. The diameter of those scopes are usuallly all the same (1 inch). |
