Best starting pattern

As someone new to airsoft, having only played 2 games as a "Terrorist", which means whatever i feel like wearing, plus some drop leg ammo pouches, what type of pattern should I buy my gear in? ACU, Cadpat, black, OD, etc. Thank you very much ahead of time.

where do you play?
whats the vegetation like?
blend in. thats it. always depends where you play. i doubt you want to wear desert BDU's in a woodland environment.

Disco_Dante October 14th, 2007 22:22

Ah yes i can see how i probably should have included that in the previous post. Both my games so far have been outdoors, however CQB looks like a lot of fun as well. My friend suggested CADPAT BDU's with black gear on top of it, as it will sort of fit in everywhere.

Multicam works in the bush and in the desert and in the urban areas.

I'd get flecktarn or DPM, both patterns work very good.

All depending on the surroundings Philstructo.

We have had participants at our grounds show up in multicam, and to a large degree they show up worse during games than if they were wearing black.

Given the surroundings, multicam works perfectly fine.

Disco, What do the 'non terrorist' players use given your playing conditions?? Choose from there.

Pick something that;
A) Works with your location (lots of browns...fleck, lots of greens...CADPAT).
B) Is cheap and easy to get (for me...that'd be DPM).

ThunderCactus October 15th, 2007 00:14

OD, flecktarn and DPM seem to be the cheapest. If you go digital (ACU specifically) things get really expensive. Theres ALOT of fake digital out there and it becomes very apparent in the field. Real ACU works alright but with fake ACU you might as well wear winter whites lol

Thank you very much, you guys are helpful as always :)

If you really want to blend in, something you can think about is taking some photographs of the areas you play in (ground, trees, etc. Buy a cheap set of clothes or coveralls (cheap as in price, not quality), and buy some paints (Design Master Color Tool works well, I find), and spray them up to mimic the area. Use foliage or make stencils, whatever, as long as you use the same colours and blend it well.

They probably won't work too well in other locations, but if you play in a certain location all the time, they'll work really well depending on how much detail you put into them. People will laugh and give you shit for "cheaping out and not getting real BDUs", but think about it...BDUs are designed for general use, whereas whatever you're wearing will be created for that specific area.

It'll probably cost you close to the same as a set of replica BDUs as well, so it's something to think about.

Simple, Cheap, effective = US Woodland.. Paid 35 for my full set, comfy, fits great, looks great, and still my main BDU 2 years later.

Greylocks October 15th, 2007 18:42

One thing about black. It looks great, but it also stands out in the woods because nothing is really that black.

I like DPM, and the newer digital camos are fantastic.

OD green is dirt cheap and works most anywhere. Your profile does not mention where you live/play, and that environment is what you want to blend into. Terrorists are not out to be huge targets, contrary to what movies show.

how is marpat for forest? i see it but i am apprehensive about getting some because there is SOO much brown and not enough black. but i could be wrong. what are your respective takes on that style of camo. i use Special Ops paintball digital camo for up here in canada, but it is darker than marpat and has more browns in it than CADPAT, so i dont know for AIRSOFT which i should get, marpat or CADPAT. (long story short, i cant use my paintball camo for airsoft)

666 October 15th, 2007 19:11

MARPAT is good for fall, CADPAT is good for summer.

Sterling October 16th, 2007 17:27

Like everyone said before go with what is cheap. DPM, Flecktarn and Woodland are very cheep and pretty effective. I made the jump to ACU and I have spent 400$+(US) on my loadout. But get OD Tac Gear. Black doesnt blend it very well. But it does work pretty good with CADPAT.
