My somewhat close to completion AKM (56k Beware!)

So I've been looking for parts for this build for a while. With Canada being a pretty limited market for cheap or rare parts, I didn't (or atleast not yet) build an accurate AKM, but I love it to death either way.

I know its not accurate at all. I can fill a book with all the things that are wrong. Yet, overall its almost there. The only things that are on my must have list are the ribbed top cover (anyone? been looking for a long while), AK-74/AKM styled safety lever, and to custom install an ICS bolt carrier perhaps. Maybe someday I'll come across a cheap AKM style front sight, or gas tube and port...

This thing is pretty much an AK-47-AKM-AK-74 hybrid, focused on AKM.

Some parts need to be painted. The bakelite mags need to be more reddish orange, and so does the pistol grip, and top cover needs to be repainted (I fail at spraypaint, its needs to be replaced with a different cover anyway).

Anyways, here it is!

Picked up a couple sets of mags and a PBS-1 :D

The last addition to the gun was a King Arms stamped style (unlike everyone elses milled AK-47 type) receiver set (with pistol grip) that came from Jugglez this morning. Awesome build quality, but took a while to fit.

Flash ruined these pics - Wood kit.

For those who prefer that semi auto silent assault kinda thing:

Its a classic!

Parts list:

TM AK-47 shell
TM AK hopup/barrel
Cyma CM02 gearbox (this thing owns.)
King arms AK-74 metal body with black grip
Chinese AK-74 wood kit
Various metal mags (CA, TM, G&P, etc)
MAG brand AKM mags
Custom made PBS-1 silencer
Some sort of AKM slanted muzzle brake

Price for the entire load out with everything (including mags, pouch, and PBS-1) - less then a stock TM AK. The most expensive thing on the list was the metal body. Was my only option at the time of purchase.

Comments welcome!
Cheers,
Alex

looks nice!, i was thinking of getting that same wood kit for my AK-47 aswell.

I'd hit that wood with some sandpaper or a flat finish spray pritty quick. Could just be the flash but from the photo's it looks really glossy.

Thanks for the comments. The wood's just the way I like it. Its has some shine (not as much as in the pics), but I'll let it wear down naturally.

The king of Soviet Swing. Mr.Nagayleuvevvdskjndski....er something like that.

Excellent build. Very bad-ass. All you need is some 80's russian gear, and you're set! :)

I was wondering when you'd chime in Kos!

Thanks! You were pretty close on the name too.

Once I get some better cash flow, I'll get some good gear, until then, my $18 Flecktarn will have to do :(

Trickout your ICS AK!

Cheers!

I've decided my G36 will probably bite the bullet , to better the future of the ICS. Do you want to visit EastWave Inc. with me? =D

Hmm!!!! I planned to buy a scope from there in the near future... do go on! :D

Good idea selling off the G36. AK FTW. Looks like that M16 of mine is going to go down that path too. Just not for me.

Cheers,
Alex

ProbeJax September 26th, 2007 22:26

Hehehe, is this your AK fetish or something?

EDIT: DAMN, that's a lot of AK mags. Must be like, 300 dollars worth of mags, at least.

ancorp September 26th, 2007 22:34

LOL! You can be anti gun, and STILL enjoy a quality AKM.

Coma September 26th, 2007 22:41

Thats not $300 worth of mags, cause Alex is a good dude and gets good deals.

AKM is looking good, friend. If you want to hack at that front site, there is a guide on Red Alliance about converting a 47 front site into the AKM style. I think that can also be done for the gas tube.

ancorp September 26th, 2007 22:56

Heh, thank you Simon. Wouldn't have gotten that great deal if it wasn't for you!

I have seen that guide before, I just don't think I have the skills to make it look like... anything besides hacked up metal parts. I think I'll just slap on an AK-74 front sight (if I ever find one), it seems close enough. As for the gas tube, I will have to find a real steel one and modify it to fit. Shouldn't be too hard.

Have you got any changes in mind for you AK? Its probably the most solid airsoft gun I've ever held. Probably even more solid then an ICS AK.

Cheers!
Alex

Bah, I forgot to put all those M43 dummy rounds I have laying around, into the pics. Damn.

ProbeJax September 26th, 2007 23:14

Well, in value, it HAS to be at least 300 bucks. He has...14 mags.

~Bodkin~ September 26th, 2007 23:15
