New AK Stock

Why hasn't anyone ever done anything like this? Just a crappy pic I compiled, but it gives you the idea. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...ollapseFIN.jpg
A real collapsing stock, not an M4 stock mounted on an AK, and not a flimsy stock that folds under, and not as "in the way" as a side-folding full stock. Could easily put a multiple-point locking stock on the left side of the receiver, mounted on the regular stock mount. Could be easily done with either Airsoft, or stamped or milled real steel. Or it could even be mounted simply on the optics mount. Could easily make it so the butt plate was centered, not to the left. I could make one but it would be crappy, just wondering why no ones ever made something like this. Really simple, really sturdy, would be really awesome...

If you wanted to do that, use an MP-5 sliding stock, so that you only have the one bar.

And there are other options for side-folding stocks, such as the Romainian or East German wire stocks. Very out of the way and solid too. Plus they look the shit.

Hmm.. well for one, for stability, you would have to make it attach to both sides IMO. And the AK has its safely and bolt carrier handle sticking out on the right.

Coma August 16th, 2007 21:59

Didn't think of that, Ancorp. There is no way you could do this with the placement of the selector switch.

Sorry my photoshop skills are not what you would call "good." My picture must not do my design justice... I've got 2 AKs, and yeah the stock would never clear the cocking handle or fire selector, (at least not without seriously limiting access to them both), so this design just has two bars stacked vertically on the left side, where there is nothing that can get in the way. ...Stability?... meh. Iraq is entirely unstable and it's doing just fine, right?

BTW - anyone steals this design, patents it, and makes a million dollars - I swear I will destroy you. And I know where you all live: Canada.

No dude, there is nowhere to put a sliding bar on an AK receiver. No where. The selector switch's range of motion is all the way from the top to the bottom.

What Photoshop skills? That was obviously done on Paint.

No, no. Fuck the right side of the reciever. Completely. Just forget it. Both bars for stock are stacked on LEFT side. There's nothing on the left, and if you spaced them apart like the pic, you could easily clear a scope mount. Entirely left-sided. Not even going to touch the right side of the receiver. And yeah, a cheap paint-like application for Mac. I've got a photoshop copy, but ever since my isp caught me seeding CS3 ive been wary of actually using it.

Then the first time you hold it wrong, or drop it, or hit the ground wrong, that stock is going to come flying off. Its just not got enough support on only one side.

I think I may have to build one now to prove it can be done. Argh...
