TM M14 Conversion to M1 Garand - Part One

Well, I have finally had a chance to work on my conversion and I have pretty much finished part one of the conversion.

I say part one because my goal for part two is to use a wood stock to complete the conversion to a full wood and metal rifle. I also say pretty much done part one because there is still a couple of things that I need to figure out, one being how to make the faux wood look less chocolate and take the shine off of it. So if anyone has any ideas please feel free to contact me.

At this time I am only going to post the finished mod and I will write up the full mod with pictures and put it into a PDF. I hope to do that this weekend. But for now here are a few pics of the finished mod.

Oh yeah, the total cost for the mod was approx. $150 Cdn.

WOO!
It is no longer all quiet on the western front!
looks pretty good Lee. but the front seems a bit lighter than the rest.

That's one of the things that I need to work on.

i dont know much about painting wood, but I suggest a stain of some sort.

CDN_Stalker January 24th, 2007 19:10

What are you gonna do about the flush internal mag of the Garand? M14 has the removeable mag that sticks out, the Garand................

Get that front end stain sorted out and I'm gonna shit myself (am close regardless), excellent work so far!

in the Original document of the mod (its on ASC Somewhere) he explains how to make the mag shorter I think.

Really nice work Leecas, it's nice to see WWII era guns and mods being done. When guns were guns, none of this laser dot sights and other various add ons.

Very nice! How big were you able to go in the battery department. I did a wood kit on my m14 and with a 8.4 2400 the walls were getting pretty thin.

OMG... Lee that is amazing... Great work.

Have you tried to ask John Robinson Jr about the finish???

BTW... Why don't you go and post this on the WWII Airsoft Association Forum: http://ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi

Go and Search for M1 Garand AEG... 2nd Bat (John) might be able to help.

Looking good Lee. I can hardly wait to see it in person!

I haven't modified the mags yet... but I will be cutting them down so that they stick out about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch

I haven't modified the wood stock as of yet... that's part two. The stock that you see in the pics is the plastic one cut down. I'm hoping that I will be able to fit at least an 8.4 1700 without having to bore out too much wood.

I haven't because John (2nd Bat) actually sells the kits for $350 US so I didn't figure that he would be too eager to give away any trade secrets.

Anyway, I'll figure it out. Plus, the front stock that I'm using in the pictures matches the wood stock that I will be eventually using. But I think that I will be refinish the wood to be darker.
