Greetings from Los Angeles! (Hollywood to be exact)

I recently modded my TM M1A1 Thompson so that the bolt was functional and actually cycled with each shot. To my knowledge I'm the only person that has done this that I know of, and it would be cool if more people could try it out, so I made up a guide to go along with it. Granted, there are probably a few different ways of doing it, this is how it went for me.

For those of you who have already seen me post this on other forums I apologize, might as well get it out there though and start a moving bolt trend! Hehehe.

Anyways, was a fun, challenging mod and I recommend everyone with an AEG to give it a go. If you aren't afraid of the chance of completely messing up your gun I mean.

Gun still works like a charm after a couple thousand rounds, for those worried about durability.

That's awesome! Hopefully long term durability isn't an issue (like some reviews on Guarder's autoback bolt for the AK have mentioned)...makes me wish I had a thompson :(

Very cool mod! Well done. I assume it slows the rate of fire somewhat but does it affect FPS at all?

This is the type of mod I wouldn’t dive into unless I lived down the street from a store with lots of spare parts... like a spare mechbox for instance. One can envy those in HK and California for availability of parts.

He lives in Calgary and in Cali, he modded his weapon in calgary, it is super sweet

If I am not mistaken has somebody done this with sig 552 seals and posted it up. Anybody remember that?. Good job looks good.

Here is my suggestion at improving your mod.

It may need reinforcing along the cut on the back side of the bolt, but I am not familiar with this gun, so I can't advise you on that.

I would like to note that if someone was to attempt the mod with my changes that the 'nut' used be SMALLER, because then the hole cut on the bolt does not sacrifise as much durability and mainly, so that when the bolt is at resting position, the nut and the cut in the bolt is not seen, as shown in this picture.

Then a nail/screw/metal head would have to be used as well... to keep it from breaking under use

So basically (if I'm understanding this correctly) is add that notch to guide the "nut" along and have momentum push the bolt back as far back as it can go?

I would really, really like to have a few more springs AND bolt assemblies on hand though...

I'm not too sure about how much the momentum would have effect on it... I don't own a Thompson. It may or may not, give it a try! It may be an 'added bonus'.

The main idea for this modification of your mod would be to still get all the effect of your mod, and be able to fully manual cock it.

Not sure what you're getting at, but at the beginning of the video he does fully cock the bolt manually. Slides back a forth normally.
