AMSOil Silicone Spray

Hey I picked up this bottle of silicone spray and I was wondering if it would work with airsoft guns?

Read all the fine print and see if there is any mention of "petroleum distillates." If there are, DO NOT use it.

If you're still not sure, spray some in to the air, and using the "wafting method", see if you notice the scent of anything similar to solvents, such as gasoline, oil, etc etc. If you do, then that indicates the presence of a chemical which can break down rubbers and plastics. You DO NOT want that near your gun if that's the case.

What you want is liquid silicone oil. Nothing else.

Unless you know your chemicals, avoid sprays. They tend to contain things that are bad for airsoft guns. The stuff that makes it spray is the problem.

I've been using that in my Glock 19 for over a year and not a single problem... a heavily used GBB at that. I get the stuff dirt cheap from my import tuner days. (Amsoil makes great engine oil, btw)

The fine print says it's designed for plastic and rubber parts contacting other plastic or metal parts.

The spray has a very slight smell when it's first sprayed but it doesn't smell harsh and it goes away after a few seconds.

I cleaned one of my cheap springers with the oil so if it gets eaten alive I'm only out $13.

If it happens, the deterioration is not immediate. It takes a while.

Honestly, a bottle of silicone oil will last you for ages. So it`s not worth the risk.
