Issues with fitting real-steel fiberglass stock to Marui M14?
 

OK, I searched around a bit (checked the 'discussion' section and used 'fiberglass' as a search term) and came up with very little - apart from info about mounting real-steel wood stocks, which I suppose could have the same dimensions and issues.

Anyway, a friend of mine recently replaced the fiberglass stock on his M14 with a wood one and he wants to sell the original stock. I'm considering buying it, but first I want to know if it will fit, and/or if any modification (dremelling, etc.) is required.

I'm mostly concerned about the furniture - sling and bipod mounts, etc., and whether the metal parts from the AEG (barrel/gas tube, stock endpiece, reciever, magwell) will seat properly in the fiberglass body.

Also, a small question but related... how much do you suppose a never-fielded OD Marui stock would fetch me? ;)

I dont think you would have too many issues. Dimensions should be very close. If it wont fit, buy some epoxy bedding and seat the action into the stock. Would this be a MacMillan stock by any chance?

I saw an OD stock on ebay for $40 a while back.

the wood stock needed to fit onto the airsoft m14 is the big red because it's got a larger diameter grip. i wouldnt go with the fiberglass stock unless it has more or less the same dimensions.

Millions, a USGI fibreglass stock will be extremely difficult for you to fit. Not that it would be impossible, but every time I have seen it done, there were always a couple dozen holes made because the margin of error on alot of the cuts is so small.

Might I suggest an alternative?

There is plenty of dead space in the TM M14 stock. Filling it with lead weights and an epoxy / body filler would bring the weight up a bit, make it more solid. And a coat or two of fibreglass over the stock should give you the feel you are after.

On the flip side, the wooden "big red" stocks can also be modded as Manchovie mentioned. Both him and myself have both done this mod (as well as Blastyman, my apologies if I'm forgetting anyone else) and when it's done correctly it looks like nothing else.

OK, great. Sounds like it isn't as viable an option as I had thought.
