How do you tell if your gearbox is a virgin?

How do you tell your AEG mechbox/gearbox is a virgin, meaning like no one tampered with it or replaced it?

Just wanted to know, when I bring my gun for an upgrade I wanna take a look at it and see if has it been tampered with before, just wanted to know how do you tell.

Any positive/useful information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

there is no easy way to tell really, the screws might be a certain tightness, the box might look like it has the factory line lube job. but thats about it. See what others think first though.

Was gonna say something nasty but wasnt in any sort of mood to do so. :S

Perhaps something to do with a hymen? I'm glad I didn't say it.

Well TM's usually have red substance as a sealant/locktite on some of the screws. If the box has been opened this will be broken.

Like a broken seal on a envelop

broken thread locking compound or a lot of scratching on the screws. TM uses good drivers which don't scratch the screws much. Open them up a few times and you'll see the black oxide wear shiny.

The sealant is ur best bet to tell if its been opend. That or if it tells you it wants to "take it slow."

You can tell by the red liquid.

... it's the thread sealant. It use to be a liquid. It's a solid sealant afterwards.

What did you think I was talking about? Perv.

So... How does the sealant should look like on the screws?

my g36 had red crap between the cylinder and mechbox, can't remember what my sg-1 had, i think it had threadlock on the box screws

It's just on the head, some will be dripped down on to the mechbox body, surrounding the screw head. The first time you unscrew a virgin mechbox, you'll hear that sealant crack and you may see it flake off.

Like Maelstrom's situation, if excess sealant was used in the assembly of the gearbox, you may also see some run down from the top screws on to the cylinder assembly.

If it has bite marks in it, it MAY have been opened.

If it says "OWWWWCH, that hurts!" when you dig your screwdriver into it then it might be a virgin. Meaning it might not be loose enough. Make sure you use lots of lube the first time as to avoid any unwanted chafeing!!!

Just be gentle and your mechbox might have you back a second time for an even greater "UPGRADE".

Avoid going in the back way the first time also. The front is usually easier and you will not have to push as hard!!

Just remember a clean mechbox is a happy mechbox
