Upgrading an ICS AK47

Well i desided to buy the ICS AK47 because of what I hear about it. This might be a stupid question.....but when you upgrade can I just replace the spring, or do I have to replace the whole gearbox? I mean for upgrading the fps.

Thanx

Play with it for several months, then you will know if anything needs to be changed or not.
After several months, you will have read all about upgrades, or seen it done.
A spring is around $30, a whole mechbox setup can be over $300. Up to you.

Just the spring. Unless you plan to go over 400fps.

I think the ICS comes with metal bushings in their AK. If not, those need to be upgraded too.

Actually, it's not an AK47. It's an AK74M.
And, to answer your question, you'll probably only need to change the spring for small upgrades if it come with metal bushings.
But ask Droc or Mcguyver if it has metal bushings. I can't be completly (sp?) sure since I don't own one.
But, If it's your first gun, don't try to upgrade it. Just keep it stock until you get more experience. And, from what I heard, ICS' AK is offering good performences out of the box, so no need to upgrade it in a hurry.

just get a spring and spring guide.
the bushings are metal and the gears are great.

piston head isnt anyhting special also.

whats the max spring that the starting gear box can handle?

Greylocks July 30th, 2006 22:14

Before you ask about maximum springs; do more research. Please. This is not a power contest and the FPS limits are Not a goal to reach. They are Safety limits.

mcguyver July 31st, 2006 00:06

Stick to a 110 m/s spring like the Guarder SP110 or the Prometheus MS110. Then all you need to replace is the spring and you gun will shoot a lovely 360 FPS and it should stay happy for a long time.

You can follow the pictorial disassembly in my review in the Reveiws Section, but unless you're really mechanically inclined, I would recommend you get a competant AEG tech to change it out for you. Version 3 mechboxes in AK's can be a bit tricky for a first-timer.
