Headset Modification
Hey guys, I had a great idea to build up my own PTT button for my Motorola Talkabout T5420 two-way Radio, simple idea really, just a metal box velcrowed to my vest with a pushbutton that activates the PTT(so I can talk). Ive seen it in movies and I know they exist to buy, but are pricey, Im good at making my own stuff so I thought I would try it!
Heres where im asking for some advice on this from anyone who has had experience or knows about Two Ways, and if what im doing is possible to splice into the wires and attach them to the push button and it will activate my PTT :) Any info to help me out will be appreciated in my project. |
The jack is non standard, only 11mm in 2.5mm is available.

non standard, can you explain a little more :P is it possible for me to do this or is there no way to mess with the wiring.

Take apart a headset that works in it, expose the wires or solder contacts that attach to the mic, PTT and such and draw out what gives you continuity with a multimeter. From there you just copy it with the set up you want. Some radio's have the PTT portion of it as a push to ground, few actually have just a switch that connects and disconnects the mic wire.
