Piston Differences / Gearbox Idet.
First question I feel stupid for asking, but none the less. What version of mechbox is in the new CA G36's? Is it equivalent to a TM V.3 box? Is so, then all ver.3 parts should fit fine, no?
Second question, what is the difference between a half-tooth piston and a full-tooth piston? They seem to be relatively the same price, but I fail to see the differences. Is there a better piston between the two? Thanks for the help. Cheers, Brent |
1) Yes, still V3, completely compatible with TM and TM-replacement parts.
2) Half-tooth pistons are for specific high-torque gearsets. If you're not replacing your gears, get a full-tooth piston. |
Er, funny you should ask that Brent. I just recently tried to have my CA36's mechbox upgraded and unfortunately, found out that not all aftermarket parts are compatible (for whatever reasons). The following is a combination of what my gunsmith found out and what I read on Arnies.
First of all, avoid Guarder G36 nozzle, its diameter is considerably smaller (and possibly shorter) than the CA36's hopup unit's and its physical configuration is not the same. This means considerable air loss and no rib to actuate that BB retention clip in the hopup unit. Star and Prometheus has the same physical configuration, but I don't know if the diameter and length are the same, but they'd be my choice over Guarder if you need to replace CA's stock nozzle. I ended up padding my nozzle with Scotch tape for proper fit. Secondly, the Guarder's tappet plate doesn't fit properly. It'll go in, but it'll be very snug. Third, Systema cylinder head didn't fit correctly, the gearbox won't close properly with it in. I don't know if this is just with my mechbox or what (I did notice an imperfection in side-to-side alignment), I was going to put up a post at Arnies to see if anyone has come across similar problems. |
