Problem with the FAQ

I see people getting told to check the FAQ all the time when they ask questions, well I had one that I thought was pretty common so I went up to the FAQ link at the top of the page, clicked it, and no matter what I search for I get no results.

As a test, I searched for "AEG", "GBB", and "marui" and still got nothing for each one, just the "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." but those have to be the most common terms in all of airsoft so getting no results makes me think things aernt right.

So is there something wrong with the FAQ?
I've tried the same searches in both firefox and IE as well as a second PC, so it isnt my system or browser thats screwing up.

I think most people mean the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of the forum. Tell you the truth, I never noticed the FAQ button at the top. It doesn't work for me either.

It's an FAQ on how to use the forums themselves, notice the groups near the bottom.

By FAQ, for those who mentioned it, really means in each sub-forum you'll see there are sticky, those are usually the things you need/should know before proceeding on posting a thread. (ie In Airsoft Guns Discussion, there's a sticky for "looking for a review" so new members don't ask the same questions over and over again.

There isn't a checklist of things for new joiners to read over and have an understanding of airsoft. It's more like a do a search on here or google to look for what you need before posting a thread about it.

Ah, just that someone asks a question like "will star mags fit in a TM gun" and people reply telling them to read the FAQ and I always assumed it was the button at the top, not just an FAQ on how to use the forum.

Question answered, thanks.

I've fixed the link at the top to point to our FAQ section. I'm really not sure why I left that link up there, I guess I planned one day to do something with it.

As for a link to the forum FAQ... hmm, might drop it in the UserCP or something...

HoJo, the only problem with the FAQ's is that no matter what you would do, the folks who need to read it the most, dont.

It's sad, but true, and proven almost every day.

I know. You can complain about the weather too, but it does about as much good.

I think part of the problem is that you're unable to search unless you make an account. People will come looking for info, not find a search button, and then register in order to post their question not realizing their new ability to search.

MMMiles! April 2nd, 2006 15:37

Good point, I've fixed that, and I'm going to make the search button more obvious.

/edit subtle, but better?

Mantelope April 2nd, 2006 16:01

No. Make it flash.

I think I'll leave it up til I get back home tonight.
