Icom-Kenwood 2-Pin Radio Connectors

This is a relatively easy question but somewhat confusing. Basicly I have a Knockoff UHF from Asia it has a Kenwood 2-pin headset port but I just need to ensure a I-Com 2-pin is the same I don't want to buy the wrong headset and plug it in finding out if doesn't work or worst screws up the radio.

The pins look the same but look can be deceiving.

They are different.

I sell the microphones you are looking for, either PTT lapel speaker mics, or coiled ear "spy" mics.

I've had good luck so far with compatability. I bought a Midland UHF radio from Princess Auto that uses that same connector. I then went to Radio Shack, or whatever they call themselves now, and got a Cobra headset with PTT. Seems to work no problem. The Midland one looked the same as the Cobra, too.

Well thanks guys, now I have to find a headset. Any recommendations?

Batman March 17th, 2006 00:09

how much do you want to spend?

Eddie March 17th, 2006 01:49

Thats a iffy question I like the high end stuff but not the high end prices. probably no more then $300. I like the stuff from TCI like the TASC/PATROL and the Racal ISR.

i just want a kenwood connector with a shoulder mic that has volume control....so hard to find.

MadMorbius March 17th, 2006 08:06

I bought one at Radioworld for about $30 IIRC. Also has 3 programmable channel keys.

uh, they have them listed on their site?

I just grabbed the SPM-1000 "Undercover" unit from Radioworld.

Pryme Professional Series Earpieces

At Radioworld it was $65 +Tax.

I have no idea what you would get for $300, but I don't really think you need spend that much to get a decent earpiece.

As far as wearability, I use it for hours scanning. And the PPT button is on a nice LONG wire, that can be disconnected if it gets broken. In addition the PTT assemble has a big housing and button that you can find with gloved fingers, and a metal clip rather than plastic.

That model comes with two extra tips and a few replacement parts.

Also has a nifty gel loop that secures it to the point that it's almost impossible to get it off without using you fingers. Great for those time when you have allot of neck gear on that snags the wire regularly.

I'm not sure, as their site is tough to navigate at level to say the least. The best bet is to call them.

The part you're looking for is the Kenwood SMC-34 Speaker Microphone, as seen here:

Kenwood TK-370

I am going to be buying the same handset as Quantis has, it has the headphone jack in the bottom of it. Just have to find out who has one in Ottawa, Time MCI I think I'll ask first since I've ordered stuff from them for work.

Batman March 17th, 2006 11:33

actually I believe they are the TK-378 by kenwood and TH-378 from ABELL

they funny part about the radios, is everything besides the front face labeling states Kenwood. All accessories that come with it as well as the ident plate in the radio state Kenwood.

as for Headsets, the TCI models as well as the Otto throat mics, while pricey, work very very well with the radio. I have both and have no complaints about them.
