M4 Squad Support Weapon
 

Well, I had an ICS M4 kicking around so I figured that I had to do something with it. I realized that my team was in need of a support gunner so I decided to take on the task of filling the role. The following gun is what I came up with in my madness.

Exterior:
G&P USSOCOM M4 Silencer
ANPEQ/2 battery pack with 9.6V 1700MAh battery and laser unit
Harrison Bi-pod modded to fit stock M4 handgrip
Vertical Grip modded to fit stock M4 handgrip
King Arms 3000rnd electrically fed c-mag
G&P red dot sight

Interior:
Waiting on some ICS bushings and a 120% spring.

Looking mighty fine. I'm surprised we havn't seen more carbines turned into support weapons, the idea is preatty solid if you're looking for a compact bullet hose.

The extended fire burst will bust your gearbox real fine if you just put some bushings.

Other than that, it's a nice setup.

Yeah, I was thinking about that actually. I ussually only do short bursts with a gun like this but, things can always change. I was pondering getting a set of torque up gears, a poly-carb piston/head, reinforced spring guide and a polycarb tappet plate. I may also just bite the bullet and buy an FTK instead. Im not really sure yet.

Most of the games that I attend require that if you're going to use a support weapon, you'll have to use a M60, M249 or RPK. We play with 300 bbs max rules and only the support weapons are allowed to carry 1000 bbs.

Buying a FTK will be a better deal than to buy the parts separately. The problem with the expert set from Systema is that you'll get a M130 spring and ball bearings instead of bushings. Still a good deal even if you had to buy a PDI 150% or whatever and metal bushings separately.

If we can get a hold of the HurricanE conversion kit of the Strike LMG for the M4, I'm sure they would let us play with 1000bbs. :-D

I guess that I'm lucky then! Our group doesn't play with rules like that. However, we are limited to one support gunner per squad and the support gunner must kneel or go prone in order to use their weapon. Things kind of get evened out that way.

I guess its personal choice and well ethics. Sticking a C-Mag on an M4 is a cop out, the guys humping the M249 or M60(ect) are the only ones with a right to a SAW role. For a skirmish day... what ever floats your boat, Milsims are another mater intirely. Highcaps are bad enough but C-Mags... Cmon try mag changes every once in a while.

This is my opinion, neither right or wrong.

PS: Ive got a CA249 thats like 20 pounds loaded so i feel justified to make that statement.

Can't say I've played with a CA M249 for an entire game but I have held one and quite honestly, these two guns feel "almost" the same in terms of weight. My above gun is practically full metal. It has a metal body, metal silencer, metal bipod, metal RIS units, metal aimpoint. To make it easier, the only plastic parts are the retractable stock, vert grip and PEQ unit. Heh, I'll put it on the scale tonight and see what it actually weighs. :nod:

I will agree that C-mags are pretty cheap, but they do look good. Before I was asked to do the support role on our team, I only played with an MP5 with star low caps and sometimes with my pulse rifle. =p I feel justified in being a hoser for a game or two. :lol:


*EDIT* I weighed the gun and it comes in between the 16 and 17 lb mark. Not as heavy as the M249 but still frigg'n heavy non the less.
