"For the third time in three weeks, customs officials in Winnipeg have intercepted illegal stun weapons coming into Canada from the U.S., a trend the Canada Border Services Agency says appears to be on the rise.

As reported in the Sun last Saturday, CBSA agents picked off a courier shipment on Jan. 24 of three 300,000-volt stun guns, which were packaged along with brass knuckles, medieval morning stars and butterfly knives.

An Edmonton man was charged with importing the weapons, all of which are illegal in Canada.

COURIER SHIPMENTS

Yesterday, the CBSA announced two new Winnipeg seizures, both in courier shipments coming in from the U.S.

The larger of the two shipments was seized last Wednesday and consisted of 15 200,000-volt stun guns, 20 nunchuks, five spring-loaded knives (switchblades), 10 butterfly knives, 10 non-operational replica handguns, 14 non-operational replica shotguns, eight packages each containing four throwing stars, and five packages each containing five throwing cards -- a weapon Winnipeg customs officers have never encountered before.

"They're kind of like credit cards with a sharpened edge, and you throw them," said Mike Molotkin, CBSA's acting chief of air operations at the Winnipeg International Airport. "We've been aware they're out there in the marketplace but we hadn't ever seen one per se."

Five days after intercepting that large shipment, officers seized a 750,000-volt stun baton on Monday.

"It almost looks like a cattle prod," said Molotkin.

Both of the two recent seizures are still under investigation, so Molotkin would not say where the packages were bound.

"I couldn't surmise what they're for. Obviously, we're concerned about them but we're quite pleased we got them off the streets," Molotkin said.

Meanwhile, an Edmonton man is charged with importing illegal weapons to Canada after customs officers in Winnipeg seized stun guns, brass knuckles, morningstars and butterfly knives on Jan. 24.

The package, which originated in Georgia and was bound for Edmonton, was intercepted at a UPS courier hub after officers noticed anomalies in the shipping documentation.

John Robert Hunter, 24, was charged last month with importation of prohibited weapons.

This isnt right man... who needs 10! Butterfly knives... 10!... this is a little more than order a GBB... though the "non functional" replica hand guns were probably airsoft... as for the stun guns... thats a whole other ball park... although... throwing cards are not all that surprising... they are not as deadly as the throwing starts... but thats more to do with skill of the beholder...


Still... your right... underlying issue... don't order your shit from outside the country less its coming over a counter in a store near you...


AND what the hell do you need a Morning Star for?!... specially more than one of them... that'd be most difficult weapon to conceal... I mean a Claymore is easier to hide that those things... and does more damage....


Anyway... that order there is beyond Airsoft related... I collect weapons... I've lots of swords and stuff... but I don't have 10 of everything... O-o...

Although we know airsoft guns aren't exactly "non-operational replica handguns", the term replica is the gray area. What custom views as replica may be different by how we define it.

Yes but surplus stores that deal in sharp pointy objects are supposed to have a license for distrubuting them or importing them... specially when you get into collector type weapons... like a Morning Star... thats not something you can just wip down to Crappy Tire and get a tig welder to make...


Anyway... probably some stupid kid with daddy's credit card is my guess...

Banning handguns is so effective at stopping crime.

Hmm... what that has listed as a "Morning Star" is just a flail... what I've known to be a Morning Star from all my books is basically a giant sledge hammer... on the head one side is flat and the other has several spikes... with a sort of half-sphere shape to it... hence the name Morning Star... becuase it makes the morning lights go out and looks like the Star in the sky we all see... its a weapon based on blute force... although... yes I've seen some "flails" called Morning stars although those were a ball with MANY spikes and only one of them on the chain... not several... that looks more like a nine-tail what your link shows...


And still no... you can't go make a "real" weapon from running down to crappy tire and fashioning your own swords takes ALOT of practice and ALOT of time and ALOT of knowledge and not too mention ALOT of heat... trust me I've tried... but the second any sword that my uncle has smithed touches them... they are sheared in half... there are many angles and shaping that goes into it... but if you want something to stab someone... here's a sharp pointy pencil... have fun...

If that Robert Hunter is the same one I know, he deserves to be in jail.
