Battery Issues from old man noob

So I haven't played since last April...awful I know. Broke out all my stuff and did some test firing only to realize that my batteries won't hold a charge. I have an Tenergy 9.6 1600 nimh and 2 UB 9.6 1600 nimh. I have the Dpower (Blue in colour) charger and have it set for 1.8A when charging....not sure the difference between 0.9 and 1.8A. Also - one of the UB batts got so hot during the recharge it melted some of the plastic....that prolly is not a good thing.

Are the batteries now dead? Do I keep charging these things in the hope the juice comes back? Do I buy a new charger that can discharge/charge/discharge...repeat. Do I go lipo going forward?

Thanks,
ToeTag

Charge those at 0.9A, but if the cells got to 0 they could flip polarity and you'll never be able to charge them again.
NiMH loses a pretty significant chunk of charge every month, so if you don't charge them for a year, they're dead.
LiPo would be the way to go, new charger, new batteries.

I assume that you did try to charge them a few times. And the voltage does not go up, or if it goes up, it comes down quickly. If that is the case your battery is gone for good.

charging dead batteries are not a good idea. You can try to charge them slowly at 0.1 to 0.5A range. Do it outside if you can for safety reasons and keep checking for over heating.

If I were you, I would just buy a brand new battery.

Make the switch to lipo. I did recently. So much better. Happy I made the change :) they're not dangerous like some websites make them seem.

Hey Chief - I just ordered today. Should have made the switch a while ago from what i've read. Thanks for letting me know your experience.
