Will a 9.6 mini battery work with airsoft?
 

I was advised to use a 9.6v 2400mAh Large Battery if I upgraded my gun. But my gun only takes mini type batteries. So I was wondering if a 9.6v 600mAh Mini Battery will work, and if not, how come?

Yes they will work, but they wont last all that long. (Upgraded mechbox needs more juice. :wink: )

Have you considered getting a battery pouch or battery sling. Simple way to hook up a large 9.6v battery to any gun.

Yeah I was also advised to get a battery bag and line connector. But where would the battery bag be placed on the gun? I have a TM SIG 552 and I want to use the 9.6v 600mAh Mini Battery so I wouldn't need the bag.

Get an Intellect 9.6V pack. These are currently the best cells on the market with a 1200 mAh capacity and a ridiculously low internal resistance. It will crank over your gun no problem, and if you can fit a 9.6V 600 mAh in there you can fit this one too. Best of all, despite these amazing specs they are CHEAP! I was also told that the speed of the gun is slower after upgrading, and that if I want higher speed, I can get a 10.8v 2400mAh battery. But then the durability of the gun is weaker. So what would be my best choice?

Yep, that's the one. The only caveat with these packs is they like to be charged at 6 amps; for whatever reason their chemistry actually prefers being warm, which is contrary to current wisdom on charging. You can charge them at a lower rate although you won't get best performance from them. Bear this in mind when shopping for a charger.

You can't fit a 9.6V in a 552 I don't believe, even with modification.

But it says it's a mini type battery.

A "mini type" is a 7-cell pack, or 8.4V. Guns with limited space are designed to take the specific pack as Marui sells it (with Sanyo Cadnica 600 mAh NiCDs). If this is the case with the 552, get the Intellect 8.4V pack instead. With the specs it has it should still have little trouble turning over your upgrades, unless you're trying to push a 200% spring with standard gears for instance.

Well I haven't upgraded my gun yet, going to soon though. That whole battery stuff got me all confused because I was told that I will need a battery bag for a larger battery and I don't really want that. I want to hide the battery where it is supposed to be. I already have the Intellect 8.4V 1200mAh Battery (Mini Type) in my TM SIG 552 at the moment. But I'll get the Intellect 9.6V 1200 mAh Battary (Mini type) and see if it will fit. If not, then I guess I'll just have to buy the battery bag and get a larger battery when I do upgrade my SIG 552.

I hope the link worked if not go to the site you will find it I have this in my Sig with a M-100 and bushings and I can run all day long with a R.O.F that's better than stk I shoot about 350 on .2 I love it.you will have to dremel the lock tabs that hold on your rail on the upper cover but all I did was move it to the lower half ,oh your battery tray has to go 2 little screws.....do it you will love it.....Clint

The difference between 8.4 to 9.6 and up is the Number of battery cells (each looks like an AA battery, or slightly smaller).
The 8.4 is a certain size. If you add another cell to get 9.6, the battery gets bigger even if it's called a 'Mini'.
Before you upgrade, play with your gun a lot. Most folks who rush into upgrades without knowing exactly what works wind up spending a LOT of extra money.
If you want to upgrade anyway, go for parts that improve the durability of the gun, and it's dependability.
Power is not the magical solution.
