If you are a purist then you wouldn't put a Soviet style silencer on an M4, you'd get some kind of US or NATO style.

As long as the silencer is threaded the same way as the flash suppressor on your GR16 it will be good to go.

Some silencers actually silence better, some are just for looks, some are expensive, some are cheap, etc etc etc. Check out the silencers for sale on WGC for all sorts of measurements, prices and pictures.

I would go with a QD supressor, something like this one:

if you want the silencer to really absorb the sound or the small pop when you shoot, you'd better get a silencer that has foam inserts. Socom style silencers, they are rubberish and very durable.

if you're a purist, then you wouldn't get a socom style suppressor... they're for .45 cal... SOCOMs. hence, the name.

Get an OPS style or Knight's Armament styled suppressor if you're after real steel replication.

btw, your thread sizing I believe is 14mm+. Someone please confirm, as I'm not 100% on that.
You can check this yourself: unscrew your flash hider and screw it back on. Notice which way you have to turn it to get it to release/attach. If it screws off and on like how any "normal" device is attached (like a bottlecap for instance) where when you look at it face-on, you're turning it clockwise to screw it on - then it is a positive or clockwise thread.

If it's opposite, then it's a negative, counter/anti-clockwise thread.

Thread sizing is 14mm for sure though.

"rubberish"?? Please define. I've handled four different brands of SOCOM silencers and they were all made of aluminum.

That's one thing that bugs the heck out of me... when I see guys with M4's and a .45 socom silencer on them. Seriously. Buy a silencer that is the right calibre for your gun.

If you want the suppressor to run a longer inner barrel, you can get a threaded one (like others mentioned, avoid the SOCOM, that bugs the hell out of me too). If you want it for "proper looks" (US SF etc), follow Hellranger's link, thats the one you want.

As for "silencing properties" considering there's more noise coming from your mechbox than from your muzzle, don't get it for that. People love going on about how their silencer changed the sound of their gun and stuff, but the truth is the change in dB levels is virtually non existant.
