What is the Best Comtac Replica? Please help.

Hello Everyone,

So I've decided to purchase a comtac headset and push to talk for my Baofeng UV5r. However there are many replicas out there and since its gonna be a $200 investment by the time in done probably. I'd like to find out which ones are worth buying. My baofeng is Kenwood 2 pin if that makes any difference. I could not find a thread so I figured I'd start one and hopefully help out anyone down the line. I'm hoping this is the right forum if not admin please move. If anyone has a comtac could please post there experience and make recommendations that would be great. Thanks.

Comtac replica?

Usually the veteran players buy real coms. Replicas tend to shit out and you have to buy again. And if you are spending $200....just buy the real stuff.

Bump. .... A real one is $600.

You can find them used on eBay or off a truck for 200 to 500. As a vet player I know lots of guys who have gone through 2 or more pairs of ptt and headsets from airsoft places

Military forums and gun forums are another good place to look. . I bought a 800 dollar pair of sordins with a real ptt for 300. Retail would have cost me over a grand.

Lots of this gear is issued or purchased and never used because it was issued

MSA Sordins are cheaper than comtacs... I think I got my set for <$300

Thanks alot guys! Is there any other brands that make a similar headset only ones ive been able to find so far are the sordins?

There's also the TCI/Safariland Liberators, but they're a bit on the pricey side.

The budget options for RS that a shit ton of people use are Howard Leight Impact Pros. You can get 'em for like, <$50 on amazon if you watch for sales. They're just a standalone ear protection headset, but you can plug them into a speaker mic with a 3.5mm jack.

I paid mine $280 USD shipped for Sordin Dual comm, 3 Nexus PTT and all the accessories/case.

Your best bet if you want to go real is, be patient and wait for the opportunity. I've wait almost a month before I jump and win the bid.

+1 on real headsets. Snagged a pair of used MSA Sordins for 110 bucks on ebay. Just had to put some electrical tape on some exposed headset wires. Works awesome:)
