ASG STI Duty One CO2
 

Hi everyone.

I want to get a sidearm to go along with my G36C.

I've always been partial to 1911's so I did some research and found a place to get an ASG STI Duty One CO2 Blowback with spare mags.

They have the non-blowback version as well.

Could someone please post their opinion and/or a review of this?

And if it sucks, could someone please post an alternative? (I've also looked at the KJW KP-07 as my first choice, but I can't find one in a local store)

Hi, not from airsoft experience but my .02cents
I own 2 STIs and compete with them, and when I saw an airsoft STI I was all into this for basement extra practice. Then I saw it has a pivoting trigger.
My KP07 is on the way so I cannot comment, but if you want something closer to the real thing, notice how the airsoft STI has a pivoting trigger and how th KP07 has a direct trigger.

ASG is a rebranding company, for the most part. I'm not sure who the OEM is for this one, but it's probably a KJW. (I'm not up to date on the 1911 models KJW produces)
I did a quick google search, and some people are even saying KWA.

I would look into who the OEM is, and then you'll be able to find a lot more reviews on the original product.

CO2 pistols tends to be too hot for CQB

Green Gas/propane would be preferable and cheaper in the long run

In term of brands, try to get. a TM, or Kwa as they make very solid and good quality pistols. I cannot really talk about KJW but from what I read and gathered here and there, I personally wouldn't want any of them unless they're given to me

We seems to have decent pistols since some time now, probably would be 3rd on my list

As for KWC, Skeleton Sidearm and other less common brands... I wouldn't even touch them with a stick :P

This is my personal opinion though, but it's based on research, and was very pleased with the TM and Kwa I got, so no reasons to look elsewhere really


Marty: what do you mean by pivoting vs direct trigger? (I know close to nothing of real steel firearms)
I have a TM HiCapa (Based on the STI 2011) and its trigger is definitely not what I would describe as "pivoting". Maybe I don't understand what you mean

Yes paradox this is the trigger, I just remembered the correct term for it, sliding trigger. And that is what you have on your double stack 1911 (or 2011?)
Sliding trigger slides directly back, and is something almost exclusive to 1911s/2011s
This is why 1911s are known for such a smooth a light trigger, they are very easily tuned to your liking.
The STI airsoft, has a pivoting trigger. Works on a pivot, like you'd see on any other pistol ie ; beretta 92, Sig P226, CZ 75 etc...
On a pivot can be smooth too, generally harder to get light and crisp but not impossible.
For most guys, airsoft means going for looks to closely replicate a gun, and a pivoting trigger on a 1911 definatly kills looks. For myself, my airsoft 1911 will be to complement my training. So getting the trigger as close to the real thing is very important here.

From the photos (Airsoft Sti) I think they are of the ASG "brand" (they rebrand guns made by other companies, and sometimes use trades as a marketing tool (look at their "Dan Wesson" Revolvers, they don't look like the real ones at all and are really just Wingun generic revolvers rebranded, for example)

If you get a well known brand such as Tokyo Marui for instance, you will definitely get a sliding trigger

The photo I put of the trigger is actually a patrt made for the Tokyo Marui "HiCapa" (2011)

They also replicate the way the frame is built; 2011 having just a "middle frame" to which the grip attaches, and the 1911 having a frame that includes the grip "shape" on which the "scales" are screwed into (sorry my English vocabulary is lacking in that area; basically like the frame of the pistols in your photos)

There's also Marushin that makes a shell electing 1911, with the correct trigger and all; they are much, much harder to come by though and expensive here due to their rarity and difficulty of importation

ASG does indeed make them under license for STI, but I have absolutely no clue who they rebrand if they actually do (my google-fu skills obviously aren't up to scratch :D).
I don't actually care too much about the exactness of the trigger; sure, a sliding trigger would be nice, but necessary? Not really IMO.
Only reason why I'm really considering this one, is because its at least 100 bucks cheaper than all of the brands listed above.
@MartyK2500: When your KP-07 comes in (how much was it too btw?), tell me how it is please. and PICTURES!!!
@MultipleParadox: I happen to prefer CO2 over GG or propane, mainly cause I have tons of the 12g cylinders lying around from my air pistols. But yeah, I'm a little worried about it running hot for CQB... Anything I can do if I get it and it's too hot? As for thread hijack, np np, happens to me all the time for some reason. :)

I know ASG mostly for their Evo Scorpion that got a lot of press recently, and otherwise by their "Dan Wesson" revolvers which are "obviously" rebrands of Wingun. So I cannot say anything regarding the quality of the Asg Duty One per se

If I would have to guess, I would say it probably is made by KWC or similar
It is advertised as being made in Taiwan (where KWC is) and KWC are the OEM of a lot of companies such as asg, so it would make sense

This guy mention the mag being a stick mag. It works, but totally kill the realism in my opinion. Also state the fps which, as expected is very hot for a pistol if you intend using it in close quarters

Here they mention that the blowback is just to cock the hammer, and will not reload a bb in the chamber. Reloading actually happens during the trigger pull. In my opinion, this is a deal breaker, but you might have a different idea about that.

Anyways, just thought I'd bring these facts to you so you can make a better informed decision, hopefully.


As far as what I would recommend. In terms of pistols, especially if you like the style of the duty One, is to go with Tokyo Marui HiCapa; it's literally the most polyvalent platform there is and the TM's are very reliable and accurate.
To give you an idea, I am currently rebuilding mine and tested it with .4g BB and reach about 175-200' (real feet, not a guesstimate that makes no sense), and this is with my hopup set to close to zero

If you find the TM pricey, there are the WE HiCapa that are not bad either and mostly compatible with TM parts

Beside that, you've got KWA/KSC that makes very solid pistols and are available at a very good price (I'd take a Kwa over any WE, but Kwa don't make the HiCapa). Their M9 and 1911 are great, especially in the PTP line.

Unfortunately, most of these pistols are not Co2 friendly (actually I don't think any co2 mags are available at all with these), but at least you're guaranteed not to have a too hot pistol

It's time to use these Co2 powerlets in land mines and claymore! :P
