First Gun – Purchasing Theory
 

Hi

Looking to purchase my first gun (AEG) in a M4 body style (like the look, especially with a rail).

My purchasing “theory” is that as long as I get a good quality exterior and fairly reliable internal gun (thinking full metal) then pretty much everything internal to the gun can be upgraded in the future to meet my needs.

Is my theory out to lunch?

Any thoughts on G&G or E&C as a brand?

that's usually what most players do, however be advised that upgrading your gun's internals is a lengthy, somewhat costly endeavour (assmuming you're putting in the good stuff), and also hard, unless you're paying a store to do it for you.

My advice is to make sure you start off with a gun that already has a solid internal kit to jump off from.

G&G I hear nothing but good things about.

Vfc has the best externals. Internals are also good.

Just got off a 18 hour operation with my g and g combat machine. Thing has been with me for over 6 months and more then 100,000 shots. Senior members can say what they want but the combat machines are the best value in Airsoft at the moment. Next step up if you have the money is the king arms M4 full metal. I think these 2 are the best starter guns.

Thinking the G&G GR15 Raider with Blowback (about $280 in my area) or CM16 Raider ($200). To my untrained eyes all I see is the CM16 doesnt have blowback. Correct?

Is the blowback pure aesthetics?

Edit - I know I initially said metal body (and the above are plastic), but dont think my wallet can take the hit for a metal AEG.

Electric blowback is really weak and can potentially cause a lot of mechanical problems, don't bother with it.

Edit: Also, I recommend saving up for a metal bodied one. You'll find that in the heat of the moment, you'll often drop your gun or hit it against something, with a plastic gun your choices are either handling it very cautiously (which limits your mobility and gives you more crap to worry about) or you risk it snapping like a twig when it takes a hard drop.

Except G&G's don't have electrical or mechanical blowback. It's pneumatic, which has no effect/wear on the internals.

I'm not a fan of G&G guns. The metal is the opposite of Marui plastic - Marui plastic looks like metal, G&G metal looks like plastic - at least on the ones I've worked on. I've also found them to be lacking in that the air nozzles did not have o-rings and the cylinder heads did not have any form of bumpers at all. It was just metal hitting metal, which to me is a big no no. Small issues that I'm not sure why G&G hasn't fixed yet, but until that's done I'm not buying one. I'm not saying G&G is bad, I'd just prefer VFC. I've also seen a G&G with "G&G ARMAMFNT" engraved on it. Yes, "armamfnt".

Maybe the Top Tech guns are different?

they stepped their game up, I've toyed with the G&G top tech m4's quite a bit, in its stock form, it kicks G&P's ass anyway of the year, however, its imaginary trades is always a deal breaker for me.

The TopTech guns are definitely different. Everyone still just has a bad taste in their mouth from when retailers were flooding in half clear mid-line G&G's. Few if any Toptechs were in Canada until recently.

My head is spinning now; no clue what brand to even start looking at now, let alone where in Canada to buy one.

About all I really know is I like the look of the G&G TR4-18, in particular the front rail. Also like the look of the G&G TR15 Raider, again particular like the front rail, but would replace/remove the front iron sight.

Would I be able to replace the hand guard and top handle on this gun (or similar style) with a rail?

With regards to plastic vs metal, dont some real guns (ie Glock) us Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic? I guess AEG Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic must be a weaker version?

Debating if I should just take the $500-600 hit now and get a higher end metal body AEG as a first gun, or get a $200-$300 lower end plastic AEG and replace it in 1-2 years once I am fully into Airsoft.

I didnt want to be the guy that asks the tired questions of what gun a beginner should get, but I am getting there.

if thats the case, i guess its just a waiting game. You'll have access to the AVed classifieds and retailers. Pretty much anywhere u would shop for airsoft will be in there.
