Mags. Highs, Mids, and Lows.

Newb question here:

So being new and reading alot about airsoft and watching alot of videos I have come to find that there are Mid, low, and High Caps Magazines.

Out of curiosity, I looked up more about High cap mags and how they work and I see you have to crank a gear on the mag to "prime" the mag to fire more rounds. Some videos online I can see people firing AEG's Full Auto one handed while cranking the mag with the other.

I'm new so excuse my ignorance, but it seems a bit cheezy and weird to me to hear all the rattling of these mags, and hear people cranking mags in the middle of a firefight.

If/when I get an AEG will I be able to get Magazines that have a more realistic amount of rounds that do not require any cranking? (and don't sound like a baby rattle)

Thanks in advance.

Most likely, depends on your weapon. AFAIK, only one or two weapons out there only have hicaps (AGM/Javaline STG, which you can create your own mid/lows and S&T/Ares PPSH)

Mid/low caps do not require any winding. Simply load up the BB's with a loader and away you go.
30-120 rounds at the ready.

Yes it is cheesy and yes you can buy real, low or midcaps to replace the hicap.
Friends dont let friends tickel mags.

Real cap: 30 rounds
Low cap: +30 and -100 rounds
Mid cap: +100 generaly up to 190
High cap: 300+

Only high caps have the wheel to bring the bbs up...

I would like to amend that realcap isn't 30 rounds for every gun.

m4s and g36s are 30 rounds... while p90 is something like 58... M14s are not 30 either.. I think they're more like 15.

That's right, I had the STANAG mag in mind, as the AR being the most popular plateform...

Great! Thanks for the prompt answers. Good to know there are non-windy mags.

Best thing you can do when you first get your gun is throw out the high cap. No one likes a tactical maraca beside them in a game.

Hicaps are fine just starting out, but as soon as you can you should really get real/low/mid-caps instead. Whether you choose real, low or mid depends on you and your play style. Personally I got into airsoft for the realism so I'm realcap all the way. I even manually realcap my pistol mags.

Buy midcaps.

If you're required to only load 30 or whatever your corresponding limit is, only put 30 in.

Yep, save it for when you sell the gun eventually

Haha, I've sold a couple on craigslist. "Includes 3 High Caps!" Guys who've never owned one before think it's great. :P
