Goggles fogging
 

My ESS goggles are fogging a lot and I read somewhere that taking the foam off the vents will help. Is this true?

Yup. Remove the foam and use fogtech (or some other anti fog agent) they may still fog but not near as often.
Also you can grab some of the ess turbofans goggles. Never had fog on those yet. Indoor or out.

You can use dishwasher soap. It usually works for me

Dish soap works as a temp fix, but it can irritate your eyes after prolonged use.


You can get Sea Drops (anti-fog drops) from most dive shops for around $6, it works great, and is made for Dive Masks, Ballistic Goggles, Scopes, etc. If you go the anti-fog drop route, it is not a "day of" kind of thing, you should follow the directions on the bottle and apply the drops beforehand, let dry and buff. (you can apply drops on the day of, for a quick fix if they start fogging, or if someone else needs drops)

I screw a small PC fan to the top of my goggles... never ever had a fogging problem...

I have the ESS Profile NVG's and removed the foam but they still fog like a bitch. So bad in fact, I now pretty much only use my JT goggles which have NEVER fogged on me.

I'd suggest having some sort of anti-fog spray handy. A lot of people swear by Fog-Tech and this other one called "Cat-Crap" or something.

i run revision fan goggles and use the revision wipes i sometimes get condensation from sweating like a mad man but rarely ever fog since i removed the foam.

seriously tho, dish soap is frickin magical and the best thing I've tried.

I ripped out the foam and going to see if that substantially reduces fog. If not, I'm going to try adding some dish soap.

I have fan goggles and I've used fog-tech but the fog-tech hasn't seemed to do anything for me... am I using it wrong? I sweat a lot. Are there any other ideas some people may have?

Rip out the foam around the goggles, worked for me flawless at "The Gibson" on Saturday.

Johnson's baby shampoo, works as good as dish soap but doesn't irritate the eyes like dish soap can, but better if you go the anti fog solution, and yes remove the foam.

Doesn't ripping out the foam make the googles less safe?

The foam is covering vents that are too small for bbs to pass through, and are positioned on the perimeter of the goggles. Removing the foam allows better air circulation. I have a pair of the turbofan, wore them all day sunday and they worked well, but i had to have them on full blast. Mine might be a cheap knockoff lol :P I'm replacing them anyway because I accidentally damaged the foam that cushions it against your face lmao don't rip THAT foam. :P
