Magpul PTS to be discontinued completely.

Might be speculation, but this just came up in my daily feed. Better stock up on those E/PMAGs quick, I guess.

LOL.
No credible source of information given. /care.

But let's entertain this idea for a second. Dissolving Magpul PTS would mean that (and this is the first few things off the top of my head):
1) PTS would literally suicide itself by discontinuing its #1 line.
2) That would cancel all partnerships with KWA for their forthcoming ERG line
3) No more PDR-C - as awful as this gun was, people are still buying it

From a business perspective, it doesn't make sense, unless Magpul USA decided that PTS wasn't doing a fantastic job of protecting its trademarks and just pulled their rights. And let's face it, the only good PTS stuff are their PMags. Most everything else that has been cloned is "good enough" for 95% of airsofters, and the other 5% can just run out and get the real steel equivalent for a 20% markup on top of the PTS price. So what's the point?

And while we're complaining about PTS, what's up with their circa 2007 PMags, I demand M3 airsoft PMags.

^ Right, but early information (although shaky at best) is always better than finding out when stock is depleted.

ThunderCactus July 26th, 2013 14:57

I call bullshit. You don't axe a very profitable business for no reason. And there's no sign of them slowing down in sales.

More speculation (on my behalf this time), but maybe MagpulUSA wanted to dip into those shares themselves exclusively because sales were so great. I never understood why MagpulUSA even licensed out their products in the first place to PTS. Their products are almost identical (minus the actual material used) and the only added cost would be to market and maintain the (PTS/Airsoft) brand.

Hectic July 26th, 2013 15:20

I doubt this would happen and if it was going to it would only be because magpulUSA feels they can profit more from producing the airsoft line of parts on their own.
Not that i really care im not a big fan of "magpulling all the things" lol i do likk their mag pulls but i was just fine with my duct tape and para cord befor they came around also i do like their ms2 sling but there are simaler and better slings as well and a good ole fashiond 1 point bungee sling still works fine.
Hopefully for the sake of all the magpull fans the PTS line is scrapped and magpulusa starts producing even beter stuff (materials wise and such) then the PTS line. Plus better ifbits made by our neighbors then overseas. (pts is from china or something right?)

ThunderCactus July 26th, 2013 15:57

I don't see why they're make real steel quality parts for AEGs, there's less profit in it for no actual product improvement. You can't say the PTS line is lacking toughness or accuracy, if there's a fitment issue it's always because of the gun's brand lol

mr_nuts31 July 26th, 2013 16:17

So does that mean there might be a pmag shortage? again?

tygr701 July 26th, 2013 17:12

Their website and PTS facebook page don't show any announcements except for their releasing of a new Magpul PTS gun line so if it has happened they sure aren't making it public.

Drake July 26th, 2013 18:10

I think the original posts about this are typical rumor-fueled hysteria so common in the airsoft world.

For one, most parts are available in non-PTS form: the MOE stuff is virtually the same price. GBBR/P** have largerly been using non-PTS versions already. PTS versions of some things are cheaper but a lot of people concerned with price are going for the heavily discounted Chinese knockoffs anyway, and this is where I think Magpull is admitting defeat. They know they can't stop the flow of knockoffs and for the most part Magpull doesn't even produce PTS versions of products themselves.

IMO Magpul may be switching to the model which has already been embraced by a large number of manufacturers: licensing copies to manufacturers like Madbull/SOCOM Gear and taking a cut in the form of licensing fees -- allowing them to do away with their PTS division and dissociating themselves from quality issues (the green label PTS PMAGs for example).

Even if that isn't the case, only a small number of official products would become unavailable in non-PTS form (MIAD/MOE grips for AEGs for example) and even then its likely they'd still be available from Element and other ACM sources.

Drake,
AFAIK PTS is not owned by Magpul Industries. They are Hong Kong company that makes magpul stuff themselves and had licensing to produce it.

My Asian supplier just emailed me to say that they have received word to pull all Magpul PTS from their line. She said it is discontinued.

ThunderCactus July 26th, 2013 19:22

Well then. Good thing I like PTWs and none of this affects me O_O

RaisinBran July 26th, 2013 20:10

Good thing I already bought what I needed and i'm switching to GBBR's now :D

phloudernow July 26th, 2013 21:34

Theres a discussion on Arnies about this started by my brother...Apparently PTS Steel Shop in Hong Kong pulled all their magpul products hence starting the rumour about this but i guess this rumour has become a fact. But yeah....... weird....
