Grenades and CQB
Hey guys,
just wondering what the general rule is when it comes to grenades in most CQB / Buildings etc.?? For instance, there are 3 guys in a room or building. I toss in a thunder-B with the Pineapple shell...maybe some bbs and powder...are the dudes in the room/building automatically dead?? Just want to know before I put money into thunder-b's. I especially want to know for my visit to Ultimate Airsoft over the Xmas break. Thanks |
I've seen both the good and the bad.
- everyone in the room is dead, guys realize that they wouldn't have survived a grenade, call the "hits" whether they were actually hit or not. - guys duck behind a plastic chair or miraculously not get hit by an actual BB and thus are completely unscathed...;) Just make sure the host for the night (or whomever is running the game) makes a clear rule about them before the game starts. Without it stated at the game brief or in the rules for the night, how you might expect them to work vs. anyone else here vs. some random walk on to the field vs. etc....may be very different. It's also a time to allow people to voice any questions/concerns before they are used. |
Hi, grenade rules are different from field to field. For my part, i prohibit the use of Thunder-B at CQB Tactical. You should check with UA first, but I doubt they will allow you to use this type of grenades. Only Tornado grenades are CQB safe.

A Thunder B seems a bit loud to use indoors.

I use simple rule - if I can see the grenade (when it goes off), I am dead.
As Tys mentioned though, there are a lot of guys who feel that a chair of sheet of plastic provide adequate cover, or if they don't "feel" the hit, they are not hit. Good host will define rules for grenades at the beginning of the night, if not it is free for all, in most of cases. |

If most CQB fields won't allow thunder b's, what is a good alternative? I didn't really want to put $120 into a Tornado Theft Device...lol... had a buddy lose 2 to kit mongers. |
Two things need to be clarified by the host: Proximity or BB Strike for hit, and what is classified as a grenade.
If you have to be hit by the BB, cover will help. If it's proximity (or room), then you're dead when the grenade goes off in the room. The second part is really important... You see less of it in CQB compared to outdoors... but classification of a grenade is important. A tornado, loaded, and gassed; when detonated is a grenade. A tornado, unloaded, ungassed, or otherwise not working: It is not a grenade, it looks like one, but it is not. If someone throws a grenade in the room with me, and it doesn't go off (no bb's flying), do not expect me to call it. |
Shelledpants...that's a great point, and I'd agree that they have to go off and spit BBs to count. Duds happen...sometimes unexpectedly, other times they are thrown on purpose as a distraction.

Guy spends the money, takes the time to buy a grenade pouch, weave it into his vest, put the grenade together, puts down his gun, throws his grenade into the window, risking braking it/ being stollen/ damaged, and you won't call it because a high speed projectile didn't hit you hard enough in the head?

I threw my tornado pretty far on Friday, barely a scratch. Those bastards are tough and lots of promotions lately, 100 a grenade w/ free gas can. Biggest concern with throwing a tornado is throwing it safely. You don't want to peg someone in the head with one of those. :)

I use this general rule for pyro-grenades in my games :
A BB must hit you or you need to be within 5 feet of it to be considered hit. Tornado grenade : BB must hit you. |
