Preparing a new outdoor field
Hi
We are starting to work on a new field for 2013 and was curious to have your advice on how to mark the limit of the field We are talking forest, near the US border in Qc (climate wise). We need to draw a off limit "line" in the forest. Looking for something that will: Be cost efficient Resist winter condition and rain and wind and... Easily seen by players in game So far, going for marker with orange fluo painting on tree at 6 ft high seems to do it Any advice will be greatly appreciated :) Thanks |
Orange ribbon is dirt cheap and should hold up to weather for the most part.

That's great news! Good luck with your new field:) Cant wait to see it. Can you give us a better idea of it's location or is it top secret for the moment?
In Pont-Rouge we use Yellow tape, very inexpensive at Reno-Depot. I prefer yellow to red because it's so easy to see, even when it gets dark. Instead of running a line from side to side, we hang strips of about 2-3 feet on a branch that stands out. It's better then paint, cause you can remove it if needed and even reuse it. Take care, 5kull |
Red "Do Not Enter" tape. Do a mixture of orange tagging tape and that.

I've seen fields use this
http://www.plasticmesh.net/plastic-m...ce-barrier.jpg It's really effective, makes it impossible to accidentally go out of the limits. I don't know much about the pricing though, you're going to have to search that on your own. |
It's roughly 200 acres of woods.
Not sure if this shows here: https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...16188954_n.jpg |
Surveyors tape. Inexpensive, and comes in infinity different hi-res colours.

Looks promising! How far from Montreal Approx?

I am about to embark on the same project..
we tend to do a lot of night games.. so I need something that is low light visible I'm thinking dayglow paint on trees is the way to go. |
paint markings on the trees will be your best bet... ribbon tapes tend to stretch over time, even rope... maybe a combination of it all will be the right recipe for long term marking.

I am so jealous.

Used that on some private even not expensive, visible, and say what it need... if you meet some compact trees sections or want to be more carefull of you you can also tie 2 trees together every 15 feets ...
exemple: |--tie----|#|# |#| |###|--tie----| |###|##|------|##|### |### | ----tie---\ people can't miss it ! it last long and it do not damage to anything if you use your head a little... + It will be easier for you to locate sections that need to be ''refresh'' after few years. To keep my tapes steady I tell before each game that If you see them you are already too close from them ... it avoid most of gun fight where bbs could rip them ... but shit happen sometime however 3 inch wide are enought to sustain many shots ... + It can help if you do have insurances for the events ... (don't know why but it might be more ''official warning'' http://www.ebay.com/itm/Empire-Level...item3f1b0c637c |
Electric fence.
Your choice whether or not to energize it. |
Fencing.. 200 acres is a costly and large undertaking..
Cheap and effective is the goal |
i would say tree paint and ribbon, if at all possible. even if you just ribbon off some parts, that tends to work fairly well, even at night. at least for keeping me on fields. and if it's important at night, glowsticks of a specific colour help too.
