Oops...

SOOOO...

In my little airsoft adventure, I decided to charge up my 8.4V 2100mah NiCad with the charger I just got from Reaper, a Radio Shack fast charger. Anyways, the light that appears to let you know if it's charging or it's done turned off after about 30-40 seconds of charging... I didn't believe it could be charged, it was dead when I tried it in my gun, an ICS MP5-A4, beforehand (and my friend's multimeter reported voltage at 8.04V). Of course, 30 seconds of charging wasn't enough, though ater about letting it do 30 sec charges for a couple of times, I was able to hear my gun "click", though not shoot BBs. Gut feeling battery was still too low, and my friend's meter was in his room, so I decided not to attempt to wake him up... Well, decided not to proceed to look for it after I nearly crushed his head by stepping on it in an attempt to seek out his meter ( - he was on a mattress, in his computer room, where the meter is - his room was too hot sleep).

I figured I could tape down the "start charging" button... I only let it charge for about 50 minutes... Oops... It's reporting voltage at 9.57V.

nothing wrong with that. all nicad batteries read higher voltages after a charge. even when it's "dead" and not working on your gun, it could be reading higher than 8.4v.

This is 100% perfectly normal.

It's only bad if your battery is unusually hot.

It's even worse if it's bubbling, melting, smoking, and catching on fire...

Thanks. Anyways, I dunno what the hell's wrong with the charger and why it won't stay on (or the light anyways). But, then again, last night after 40 or so minutes, the light was off, again, and the button had been fully depressed for the whole time. Still charged up my battery. I think I'll try just hitting the button once next time, letting the light go off, and see if it still charges my battery.

P.S. I'd also like to point out BBs hurt on bare skin.

only 9.57V?
my 8.4V was showing 10.8V right after charging and then next day it showed 12V.
