How do you carry around a heavy gun? Am I just lazy?

Okay, I love full metal upgrades. So much so that all my guns are FMU.

I just finished the FMU M4A1 kit, Systema metal body, SIR metal front with redimag metal battery holder. With 2 metal magazines the friggin gun weighs more than twice my FMU MP5 RAS does. I'm guessing close to 4-5kgs.

Now I've run into a problem. My M4A1 carbine FMU is so friggin heavy it hurts my miscles (small muscles) to carry it around. What am I suppose to do? Seriously!

Any of you guys have suggestions on how I should field this gun? I'd hate to have to lug it around for 8 hours during a good game but I guess real steel weighs even more. Guess I have to start hitting the gym so I can play airsoft.

P.S. I post this as a humourous situation as I can appreciate what troops have to endure lugging real weight around.

You'll get use to the weight after playing with it. Are you using a sling also?

Yeah, I have it on a sling and it hurts my neck.

What kind of sling are you using? I find a three-point-sling does a good job of taking some of the weight. Although another option could be the Blackhawk Chalker sling, its essentially a harness that spreads the weight over both your shoulders.

You shoudn't have sarted off the pansy way buying a typical plastic M4

Thanks all.

Sounds like a better sling may be an option and then just getting use to the gun.

P.S. I'll also take the advice of taking off all the accessories from the front end, I don't need to use that kitchen sink very often on the field. Hate to feel what this weighs once a SP metal M203 gets strapped on.

Try taking an Advil before the game starts. I find that it helps with my muscle aches. I'm also 40 years old.

I too carry a very heavy weapon that hurt my whole harm. My M24 is upgraded with machined aluminium parts inside. I guess it's weight is close tho the 10 pounds.

My trick: A good sling and the proper carrying technique. Change from one thechnic to the other so not to overstress your muscles. You don't have to be at low or high ready all the time.

When not on patrol or in risky situation, carry it like a good hunter do.

I got a ton of heavy stuff... just drag it around, you'll get used to it.

4kg? that's all?? man, I never even thought about weighing my guns (real steel, or airsoft) I just figured that they would be in the 8kg range when FM.

manchovie June 30th, 2005 21:42

just thank god you dont need to lug my beastly L96 around, if the weight wont get you the awkwardness of a 5ft long gun will (good old silencer). it used to hurt but not anymore, dont worry about how heavy it ends up being, you'll get used to it unless it's totally ludicrous (alex's sr15 with the massive nv scope :P)

Bring your girlfriend or wife along during your games and tell her to hold it 'cause you can't. :D

gandar June 30th, 2005 22:47

...Man... 5-6lbs isn't THAT much.. even all day... Even if you hang it around your neck on a tac-sling.... *shrugs* I think you're just lazy :P

ToRN June 30th, 2005 23:09

that's why I'm saying that it is probably more than that, at least 6kg (13.2lbs) if he is having that much trouble with it

Sgt_Lynch June 30th, 2005 23:10

Yeah, you guys are whining about nothing. My RPK weighs close to 11lbs and my Sr15 has to be in the same area.
