RA-Tech WE AK Steel Trigger Set
 

Hey guys, I purchased the RA-Tech trigger set for WE AK74, and it installed without any issues. However, my full auto isn't work at all. I figured out what the problem is, and apparently, the steel selector lever isn't pushing down at the back of the steel sear. This is caused by two things that I have noticed:

1. The RA-Tech sear is significantly shorter than the stock sear
2. The RA-Tech selector lever is slightly thinner than the stock selector lever.

Because of these two issues, the selector lever is not engaging the sear at all and cant push it down during full auto. Notice in the picture below, Ive highlighted the difference in length of the back of the sear sticking out. During full auto, the selector lever only pushes down at the back of the sear, but in my case, it cant even push it down because too little is sticking out. As such, full auto doesnt work. I read that people had no problems installing their RA-Tech kits and it seems pretty straight forward. Im just wondering if I got a lemon because my sear is soo much shorter:( Here are some pictures to show the problem:

I recently replaced my trigger group too, and the full-auto function works 'fine'. By this I mean the gun will fire full auto, however the selector lever is now a loose fit to the gun so will be rattled down to semi by the recoil. I reinstalled the lever as tight as it would go (the set screw that holds it in place is all the way in) but for some reason the lever now had a loose fit to the receiver. If anyone knows how to fix this that would be great. But OP it seems like you just got a lemon as someone above me said, return them get new parts and you should be good

Is your sear also as short as mine?

My fire selector became loose too.. I just re-tied it to the level inside (check how far the screw goes before putting in the trigger box) and bent the selector itself a little bit, so now it scrapes a little harder :D

im going to post it up here on ASC as im taking pictures to explain the issue.. I compared my sear and trigger with new parts from Jugglez and they are the same. It is obvious that the RAtech parts are not made to spec with the stock parts, but there is one small subtle difference that can mess up the full auto function. If you are using the RATech upgrade, im not surprised if you will experience my issue down the road after repeated usage. Im going to post it in just a sec

So it is evident that the trigger and hammer are smaller than the WE stock counterpart. Although this difference is significant, it doesn't affect the function of the gun (not yet at least). HOWEVER, the reason why my selector lever was unable to securely push down the sear was because the lever and the selector nub (Part #99) had some rotational movements. Here is an image of Part #99:

Notice how its flat on one side right? This part inserts firmly into the stock selector lever to prevent any wobbles. However, the RATech selector lever hole is not the same as the stock counterpart as shown below. Stock on the left, RATech on the right.

Because the RATech version is not flat at the top, there is a bit of wobble when Part #99 is installed in the hole. The amount of wobble is enough for the selector plate to be out of position when switching to full auto (especially with recoil), which in turn renders the full auto to be disabled (since the selector cant push down the sear anymore). The stock selector plate however, has a cut out hole that perfectly fits Part #99, and thus, minimal wobble if any. As such, any movements on the fire selector will directly translate to movement on the selector lever.

So to solve this issue, what I did was that when i installed Part #99 into the selector lever, i placed the lever on full auto so I can see its position relative to the sear. I ensured that the selector lever can actually engage the sear before fastening the grub screw into place. Also, when you do install the grub screw, add a drop of blue loctite so the grub screw holds in place. Also, make sure that Part #99 is firmly pressed against the receiver in order that it inserts firmly in the selector lever before the grub screw is fastened. Anyways, im going to be using a RS fire selector with Part #99 when i RS my gun, hope it will work well.

Im not sure why RATech decided to manufacture a steel counterpart of the selector lever as there is minimum wear on this part. In my opinion, I think a steel version of Part #87 is much more important since it is constantly being impacted by the bolt in able to release the hammer forward.

I fixed the full-auto issue by bending the selector lever in slightly. While I'm probably going to keep the steel selector in the gun, like turok said it is a low stress part that doesn't really need replacing.
