Npas for the WE416

Well, I think this is the right place to ask this, but I was wondering... I've heard a lot of stuff for GBBR's (I own a WE416) such as get an NPAS, Open or closed bolt?

Basic question is, I know mine is closed bolt (looking into Openbolt if its better, welcome to chime in opinions) and I've noticed off airsoftparts.ca that they have two NPAS kits for closed bolts and one for open. I'm not 100% sure which one to get for when my 416 is using closed bolt. Whats the difference in the two versions?

If there is a yellow brass tube in your gun, then you have closed bolt. If that brass tube was replaced with a hollow space of nothingness then it's open bolt.

Hey Ross,

I can verify that he has a closed bolt. Just curious to see the difference between the two NPAS kits on airsoftparts.ca.

There is this one:

versus
http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=2047

The second one is obviously open bolt, so does that make the first link a closed bolt NPAS system?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes the first link is for the closed bolt system.

The first NPAS kit would be the nozzle in the open bolt system... as seen here http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=2273

Which would be better? The NPAS kit for open bolts or the air nozzle?

Ross January 31st, 2012 22:46

that air nozzle is part of the open bolt system. If you upgraded your closed bolt gun to an open bolt gun, that air nozzle would be the main ingredient.

Yummy! :D

For closed bolt, which you have, use the NPAS kit in your first link... this one: http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...oducts_id=2046

You have the closed bolt...you need the NPAS unit that's sold attached to the rod. You'll have to take it apart and swap it onto your bolt.

You cannot simply buy the Open bolt nozzle and expect to drop it into your gun. There is a full WE open bolt conversion kit (chamber, barrel, bolt, etc...)...and then you can swap in an NPAS float valve, or swap to the NPAS open bolt nozzle.

If you do the open bolt conversion...you'll need to convert your mags too.

Is it worth it?
1. WE is switching/making everything open bolt now
2. Gas efficiency is better
3. Accuracy out of the box is better

Lots of guys still run the closed bolt system...'cause it's what they bought.

Up to you

Yeah my bad. This stuff is confusing when your handed a more complicated airsoft gun then a Walmart Clearsoft lol. Ok so I was talking to a guy who knows WE like the palm of his hand at Hero Army Surplus. He said close bolt is harder to get for GBBR cause WE is doing all open-bolt now. He said close bolt has a faster cycling but if you guys are saying open bolt is more gas efficient then I guess it doesn't hurt to have both right?

As for mags I bought the 416 used off of some guy on Craigslist (he got it off Hero Surplus... sticker was on the box) The box says its a close bolt and with the brass tube in it its closed. But the mags the old owner bought say they are open bolt. I'm not 100% sure what to look for when comparing the two mags. The description on the SKU sticker says open bolt. How can I tell? I only have two mags so converting (if they are closebolt) isn't a price issue.

The magazine lip on the closed bolt is higher than the one on the open bolt, so is the rubber nozzel seal.

get the open bolt upgrade kit, and then get the open bolt npas, then get a bunch a open bolt feed lips for your mags. That would be my suggestion.

CrAzy AziAn February 1st, 2012 00:23

Ok. Thanks to Google Images I have come to the conclusion both mags are close bolt.

A. If the gun is close bolt, the mag that came with it is too.
B. The mag that was bought separately is exactly the same.
C. Google Image Open Bolt is much smaller.

Thus, I need mag conversion kits and two more mags (cause my crossdraw vest fits 3)

Just do as Ross said, upgrade everything to open bolt, you will enjoy the rifle more and it will teach you everything you need to know about the internals! +1 for Ross YAY!

CrAzy AziAn February 1st, 2012 12:54

Will do! Thanks for the advice guys

Ross February 1st, 2012 18:12

if you have a hard time converting the mags, send me a message. They are trickier than you may think.
