CF new boots? Brown coloured?

Thought it was relevant so I post it and sorry if this is a repost...
So the Canadian forces are issuing brown boots now sooner or later, so what are your thoughts? However is it true though? Wondering why did they chosen brown instead of black?

Black shows up like crazy on NVGs.

Gato December 17th, 2011 23:08

This isn't anything new, but good post anyway. I preffered the black boots, they looked better with the uniforms. Though, I've never bothered looking at my boots with NOD, so I can't comment on Danke's comment but I'm checking it out now

Edit: No, no the black combat boots do not show up like crazy........... why are you staring at your feet anyway, the enemy isn't in your shoe

Just looked at my issued boots through my PVS 14, with and w/o IR light. They do not stick out at all. My tan work boots showed up more.

Hah those are nea.t I was really hoping we'd get cadpat boots :) although i'll bet were in multicam in 5 years.

Doubt those will ever make it to steel toed boots. But our current steel boots succccck

we have been in our current uniform for about 10 years, and we just started up a new contract for more CADPAT. I HIGHLY doubt there will be a standard issue of MC any time soon. By the time they are ready to move us into a new pattern, there will be many bigger and better things then MC.

Agreed , as much as I love MC, it's FAR from the best pattern around.

I would say OD is much more visually acceptable than brown.
brown is kinder like construction boys.

MaybeStopCalling December 18th, 2011 01:28

I believe part of the rationale for going to brown boots was to reduce the requirement for tan boots and black boots to suit CADPAT Arid and Temperate. Simplifies costs and logistics.

Either way, I don't care as long as the boot's comfortable. Knowing my past with CF boots, however, I don't hold much hope.

IR reflection has NOTHING to do with color and EVERYTHING about composition. VEGETABLE dyed clothing stands out less than synthetic dyes, for instance, and there are treatments for IR diffusion. You could have a neon red flight suit and not stand out on IR if you treat it properly.

Danke December 18th, 2011 02:11

Try this. Get a bunch of guys out in the dark with camo clothing on. Look at them with a NVG. You'll pick out the boots first if they're black; especially if you're prone or in a trench and they're coming into your veiw.

Janus December 18th, 2011 02:14

Wonderful. When will they let us reg force guys know? O.o

ThunderCactus December 18th, 2011 02:30

They got sick and tired of guys in artillery trying to BLIND the enemy with their abnormally shiny black combat boots!
And you guys are reg force, you're always the last to know lol

What nobody realizes is that with the introduction of these new, brown boots, you will not be allowed to wear ANY non-issued boots. People are going to be ANGRY.

I know this applies in Gagetown at least, coming from the Base CO. I imagine there'll be similar policies at other major bases.
