artillerie or ordnance in Airsoft?

here and there i see people make some mortars and a couple or artillerie pieces for airsoft, but i was wondering if mortars and things like that are ever going to be something that you usualy see in games. I see why you would use them in some senerio game or objective, been i was wondering if there would ever be that squad of mortar guys set up and rain down on the field.
so what are your thoughs, do you guys think that in the futur such a thing will happen or not.

i sure hope so. it will be so awsome to be able to call in "artillery" strikes on targets. would have to be a larger game though, something largely outdoor with maybe a small town somewhere> oo man the possibilities> in scotland one site uses a helicopter with two highly upgraded miniguns and you can call in gun runs on sections of the forest and literally the thing will come barely out of the sky firing the miniguns and somehow the rotor wash doesent seem to affect the bbs if onl to make em go even faster lol. its quite epic.

I've seen a mortar being used for sound effects and part of the scenario, but this is airsoft. You're pretty much just putting BBs/peas in a firework.

The range of such items places them within range of small arms .. so really they can't perform the role of Artillery .

they are novelty items at best.. a waste of bbs at worst

tube-launched, CO2-propelled tornado grenades for the win!
I'd enjoy that.

Would be a cool idea, but the price of bb's would be insane unless you bought the cheapest kind. But yet again the weapon firing it would probably cost a arm and a leg.

Thought: Replace BBs with something dirt cheap, but still solid and small. I think ASIAN RICE (rooster brand, etc), not the instant type. It will biodegrade, is cheap, small, speckle everywhere, will shake out easily, won't mess up gear/weapons/BDUs, stores easily, long shelf life, etc.

Originally thought of dried beans/peas, whatnot, but they're significantly more expensive per pound than a 20-30 lb bag 'o rice. ;)

yes but now think of range....

how far will this clump of rice really fly before scattering, also your munitions would be at the mercy of any wind.

Yeah as R.I.T.Z pointed out they will weigh nothing wind will be a huge factor.

you could set something up at a feild to "recreate" something like this, on popular bunkers place something like a bucket of rice or trip mines, when one team gets to an artilery location they can fire the artilery strike and activate the trap.

Which is why I originally said an IED design to represent an explosive AoE device (ok, maybe not explicit enough in my original description) would have a china hat (inverted) or deflection plate (or something similar) to divert the explosive gas outwards instead of upwards.

I need to sit down and draft up something along these lines. The hard part, imo, would still be how to detonate it - remote trigger, trip line (physical or IR), photosensor...? Don't know yet - need to explore the options. Just wouldn't want the device to be obvious in the field.

Trip wire or remote would be good. Or go through trial and error. Find out what is the most easy yet effective design to make.

most larger games with arty will employ a map with grid squares.
when arty is used, a grid square is designated, game control goes out and marks all players in the square dead.

artillery guns are just props
