JG Replacement drop-in gearbox

Would a JG Replacement drop-in gearbox fit in a crossman r76? ( i know its crappy but its not for me anyways... some kid that play with us sometimes has one and the plastic gears all stripped...and he doesnt wanna buy a "300$-decent-gun"..)

Styrak June 26th, 2011 02:52

If the mechbox is a V3, then yes.

DarkAngel June 26th, 2011 02:59

300$ is a "decent gun" ???

"Mcdonalds makes decent burgers"
"The ribwich is a decent alternative to ribs"
"Volvo owners are decent drivers"
"NDP voters are decent hard working people"
"NDP have come up with a decent financial strategy"

Must I go on?

voorhees -FWA- June 26th, 2011 10:58

...so what price range exactly does an airsoft gun become decent?
I have owned a CYMA Galil for about 2.5 years now with zero issues. I even run it on 11.1V Lipo...
I have a KM4A1, almost double the cost of the Galil and the sector gear stripped third game out...
I'm not seeing your logic and need clarification, thanks.

voorhees -FWA- June 26th, 2011 11:04

@OP; When you take the gearbox out, you may have to compair the 2. I think the problem may be with the motor and the motor cage housing. The Crossman may have used a different motor setup with the gun. There's no way to know for sure unless you can physically compair the 2 gearboxes.
If you want to fix it, then use any spare gears you have laying around. Platic Walmart M4 gears will work too. Make sure you grease the gearbox well.
The gearbox will be good to use until the point where the box itself fails. Walmart M4 gearboxes bow out in the middle when they finally say "enough is enough".

Nope:) Was this needed? Really?

To the OP. I doubt that gearbox would work. Crossmans are disposable guns. Get another one.

Beeny June 26th, 2011 11:09

Well, I can't compare the 2 gearboxes side by side :P as i only the crossman one (which is really crappy). As i said the r76 is not mine. But yea the gears are broken and im looking for a fix...

Don't know where i could get plastic gears...(i dont have any laying around...)
So i was thinking of getting the guy who owns the r76 to buy either metal gears or a complete drop-in gearboxe but i dont know if they will fit :O

I know theyre shitty guns. Thats what i told the guy "get something better". But i think he likes his crossman lol...

DarkAngel June 26th, 2011 11:12

Yeah it was needed actually.

I really hate how the bar has utterly dropped and people think that 300$ clones are the norm. The Midrange Bar has ALWAYS been TM @approx 500$. Even Companies such as G&G (Which I still consider to be sub par) are over 5 for their proline non clear guns.

Just cause the market is flooded with cheap crap, doesnt make it the norm. Doesnt make the bar lower to accomodate you. Its still cheap crap.

voorhees -FWA- June 26th, 2011 11:24

Beeny, now it becomes a matter of cost to the guy that wants his Crossman fixed.
You can tell him that a new gearbox is required but you should mention that this may or may not work with this gun and you wont know for sure until you get it in and try it. If the gearbox doesn't fit, you can rebuild his current gearbox with the gears in his new gearbox. Put it all together and see if it works and give him the remainder of the drop-in gearbox as parts and he's good to go.
The main objective here is that you as the gun doc do not invest any money toward fixing his gun. Charge for your time too. The whole process of ordering the drop-in box and the replacement should be about $100 (depending on where you buy the gearbox).
Explain clearly that;
It may be in his best interest to invest in a new gun.
A replacement gearbox may or may not work.
Replacing the gears may or may not work.
It's hard to tell for sure until there is a replacement there to compare the two boxes too.
Get his money up front if you are ordering the gearbox or just get him to order it.

Times have changed now. TMs and King Arms (Which I consider above par) AEGs can be had for $300 now. You'd be silly to pay $500 for a TM when Real Swords can be had for that price range. And just because it's cheap, doesn't not make it crap. I paid $300 for a JG G36C 3 years ago. It's has seen countless games and is now in the hands of its 3rd owner and has yet to have any issues.

@OP It's not worth dropping a new gearbox in a crapsoft gun. Tell your friend to get AVed and he'll have access to the classifieds. There are some great package deals on TMs for around $300. :)

Only because CAS artificially inflates their price.

Brilliant!!
and agreed on the later point of "cheap crap" i hace owned mostly cheap crap, JG a Kraken a TSD VSR even with upgrades, the one stock TM MP5SD6 that a shoved an m4 inner into was a much more consistant platform, with our crappy projectile a good stable platform make a heap of difference that you notice when usein "cheap crap", just try shooting my VSR its got a crapload of PSS10 parts in it it shoots far and carys energy out to the target no problem, almost always takes at least two shots to hit anything over 250ft not satisfactory for a sniper as im always having to give away my position.

wouldnt it be cheaper to get another crossman?

Freeze June 26th, 2011 16:44

Crosman = Crap.

My first was this$100 Crosman POS and it broke in about a month...............

what a POS!

Go tell him that by the time he reaches one year with that gun, he's either going to have to replace almost every part on it or he would have already....and by then, he coulda bought a GOOD gun......
