Rail mounted tripod screw.

Looking for a device to mount a camera, or other device with a similar to quarter inch screw mount to a standard rail system. I'm looking to attach both a camera, and possibly a night vision monocular, to the rails on my M4A1. After a short time searching, and finding one option that seemed cost prohibitive, I came to the conclusion it would be easier to simply ask, as someone surely has had this idea long before I had.

Thanks in advanced for the help guys!

I went to the dollar store and bought one of these:

Took off the legs and attached that round part to a 1" flashlight mount and voila!

Need something slightly more study than a MacGyvered solution. These pieces are going to get banged around and abused.

These look decent but barrel mounted: http://www.spearboard.com/showthread...n+camera+mount

Here is a DIY that you might like: http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/vie...564068b3664b77
(I have the bits. I should make one of these for myself)

Are you planing to top mount or side mount?

edit: if you want a DIY, use a rail riser with a bolt running through it that is long enough to attach the camera but short enough not to bottom out before the camera is tight

Basically, take the screw/bolt (1/4-20) and screw it up through a riser. you may need to modify one depending on the clearances you have.

If you can find something like this, all you'd need to do is drill a hole:

Top AND side. Optic going on the top, and camera on the side. That one DIY does not look too bad, but all suggestions are welcome.

I'm actually surprised at the apparent difficulty of acquiring something like this.

Most people want helmet mounted cams and such. What about a T1 Micro base and some washers?

I would just be careful of the weight you plan to attach to the side. Camera mounts aren't intended to hold a lot of weight sideways (some are) and your rail might stress with the added weight.

note, the further away/bigger the camera is, the more forces put on the screw, mount and rail. just saying. ;)

I personally would only mount it to the flat top.

A bipod rail adapter mount might work, replace the bipod lug with a 1/4-20 screw. Like this: (apologies for phone pics)

But with a shorter screw.

That is amazing!

Good call. Didn't know the stud was removable.
