Why is the parts and accessories section private?

So kids can't buy parts to build an airsoft gun.

This was done almost 2 and a half years ago to prevent underage members from buying parts to make rifles from scratch.

Right there. Really, it made no sense to have the gun section AV only when any non-AV member could buy everything they needed to build their own. Finally the staff corrected it.

I suspect it was also done to try and reduce the amount of fraud on ASC.

No kal, it was because some kidiot was bragging that he didn't have to be AVed because had built a gun out of parts he bought in the classifieds, including a metal receiver. This had been brought up by age verifiers before but hadn't been acted upon until this incident came up.

Fair enough.

What about flashlights? I would like to sell my flashlight, but thats unavailable to me.

It's true that it's also to prevent fraud somewhat. Age verified members are "supposed" to be more responsible/accountable etc. But we've seem some examples where that isn't the case. For the most part it works though.

Thats just unfair. People who ruin stuff like this for others are such dickholes. Im not even into airsoft. I just wana sell some legitimate stuff. Oh well.

Yes, that's an added benefit. If ASC has a user's name and date of birth on file, it's an incentive for would-be scammers to not scam people. IMO, it was a good idea to do that.

If you're not into airsoft, why are you trying to sell your stuff on an airsoft site? Use kijiji!
