FAMAS Cylinder requires piston short stroking
[edit WRONG FORUM SECTION] I thought I was posting in the Doc's Corner. Not sure how this happened. [/edit]
So here is something interesting. The FAMAS cylinder length seems to be about a mm shorter then the standard TM cylinder. None of my after market or TM cylinders from other guns will fit proper. This complicates things because now my after market systema energy piston and flat pom bearing piston head are being pulled out too far before being released. In fact the first ring of piston head before the oring gets pulled out and locks on the cylinder causing a jam. To fix this I had to short stroke the piston so that it would release before the piston is pulled out of the cylinder. It shoots perfectly and the short stroking means its back up to that nice FAMAS rpm that usually comes stock but now with an upgraded m100 spring. The Question: The systema energy piston only has one metal tooth which has now been removed so now the last tooth is fiberglass. How long can I expect the piston to last? |
On an M100 spring... probably more than you would think...
Unless you get a jam, it should be fine for a good 20 000 at least. If/when it breaks, just get a Modify Ultra piston, and remove one of the metal teeth... Also post how many shots you got before the break for reference... I don't think anyone tried that before... You can also cut the piston to re-install the metal teeth... there was a tutorial on how to do so not long ago... it involved removing the metal part, cutting the first plastic tooth, cutting the metal stop from the metal tooth, reinstalling the metal one, gluing in plate to make sure, and adding a metal spacer in the groove to prevent the metal tooth from moving forward again. Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is actually... but it is good to know that FAMAS will benefit from that mod... You should also remove one tooth from the sector if there is one extra... it will prevent jams and reduce wear by a LOT. |
